In a significant move aimed at enhancing the efficiency and performance of the local government administration, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, presented official cars to the serving supervisors of various departments.
This initiative, dated 13th of October 2023, according to the chair, underscores the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its staff, which in turn would bolster the smooth delivery of good governance in the region.
Hon. Adesina expressed his belief that providing official cars to supervisors would serve as a motivational tool, igniting their devotion and obligation to the betterment of the community.
Speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN), Chairman Adesina disclosed that nine Lexus 330 cars were handed over to council-serving supervisors during a ceremony attended by prominent community members, including former Deputy Governor Prince Abiodun Ogunleye.
He emphasized that these vehicles were intended to fulfil the statutory functions of the council rather than being mere displays of luxury. In his remarks, he stated, “The cars are not for show; they must use them to fulfil their obligations. The council is working, and the supervisors are with me; that’s why we’re empowering them.”
“These vehicles are expected to assist the supervisors in attending crucial meetings and staying informed about developments within their respective wards”.
“The gesture is part of a broader effort to encourage the local government’s employees to diligently serve the people of Ikorodu.
“It reflects our commitment to creating a conducive working environment for local government representatives” Adesina added
The council boss further highlighted notable achievements including the introduction of a quarterly palliative stipend for all local government staff, designed to mitigate the impact of the federal government’s subsidy removal. The administration has also partnered with Speed Up Lagos to provide digital skills training to 100 students, supported the renovation of a block of five classrooms at Salvation Army Primary School, and offered financial assistance to widows and students in tertiary institutions, among other initiatives.
Addressing the gathering before the presentation, Alhaji Adeola Jokomba, former chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA conveyed his goodwill message, lauding Chairman Adesina for the accomplishments achieved during his tenure.
He stated, “In terms of feats, the executive chairman has inscribed his name in gold across the Ikorodu division.”
Alhaji Jokomba encouraged the supervisors to be the vigilant eyes of the council, underscoring the significance of the car presentation in improving governance.
Former Lagos State Head Of Service Commission chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Rotinwa, who also attended the event, expressed his appreciation for the council chairman’s tireless efforts to improve living standards in Ikorodu.
He commended Adesina for his dedication to the community and suggested that such good work would only lead to greater career achievements once his tenure ended.
The ceremony culminated with the official ribbon cutting of the cars by former Deputy Governor Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, marking the value of the occasion for the local administration and its allegiance to useful governance.
In conclusion, Hon. Wasiu Adesina assured the people of Ikorodu that his administration is unwavering in its commitment to making a positive impact on the community.
He urged residents to continue supporting the local government by fulfilling their tax and levy obligations, emphasizing that these contributions are vital for sustaining the ongoing development efforts in the region.
Furthermore, he extended his gratitude to the people of Ikorodu for their fervent backing, which he credited for the success of his administration.
