Lions International District 404A-3 embarked on a significant initiative to promote social-emotional learning and commemorate Lions Quest, a theme focusing on teachers’ training workshop skills for adolescents.

The event, held on the 27th of October 2023, aimed to create awareness about the critical role of adolescents in society and the importance of instilling values and skills in them.

The program, designed to sensitize parents on how to care for adolescents aged 10 to 19, seeks to prevent the mistakes that adults might have made in their youth.

Lion Lady Funmi Alabi, the District Chairperson on Lions Quest for 2023/2024, welcomed participants, and guests, including Mrs Ella, who graciously hosted the event, and Lion Kola Oyekanmi, the Lion Quest trainer.

Lion Funmi underscored the importance of the theme, stating, “The theme of teachers’ training workshop skill for adolescents is a great one. The majority of our adolescents face challenges, and we are here for three days to sensitize parents on the do’s and don’ts of guiding adolescents.”

She also underlined the mission of Lions Quest for 2023/2024, which is to promote values for adolescents to prevent them from losing their way. Lion Funmi urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained during the program in their homes and communities to make a positive impact.

Lion Kola Oyekanmi, the facilitator of Unique Prella School, stressed that the focus on teacher training skills for adolescents enhances students’ abilities to develop life skills, ultimately serving their communities and contributing to the growth of adolescents.

Participants at the workshop learned about values promotion, self-management, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and more, all aimed at building stronger individuals.

“We were able to have participants from thirteen different schools,” Lion Kola Oyekanmi noted, highlighting the broad reach and impact of the program.

Mrs Blessing Ella, the proprietress of Unique Prella and the host of the Lions Quest Program expressed her gratitude to Lions International for choosing her school as the venue.

She described the initiative as a great opportunity to make a positive impact on adolescents, saying, “This is a great opportunity for me, it is an impactful project that has opened my eyes to help adolescents in our school.”

Miss Ejiro, one of the beneficiaries, also shared her appreciation for the program, emphasizing how it provided a unique opportunity to learn, unlearn, and relearn, ultimately enabling her to better educate her students in the classroom.

The beneficiaries extended their gratitude to Lions International for organizing Lions Quest in a social-emotional learning way and expressed their eagerness for more initiatives aimed at nurturing and empowering adolescents.

“We are looking forward to more of this from Lions International,” they said, highlighting the importance of such programs in shaping the future of adolescents in Nigeria.
