In a heartfelt response to a tragic canoe casualty, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has offered its condolences to the affected families and community.
Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, visited the accident site on Sunday, October 29, 2023, to convey the government’s commitment to preventing such incidents in the future.
Received by community leaders from Yewa neighbourhood Isawo, Ikorodu West LCDA, Dr Agbaje extended his deepest sympathies to the residents affected by the tragedy.
The tragic incident occurred due to the reliance on a plank bridge located between a canal, which became problematic when water levels rose, leading to the canoe’s capsizing, as Dr Agbaje explained.
Dr. Agbaje stated, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the departed, and I assure the community that all the information I’ve gathered will be relayed to His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. I am confident that measures will be taken to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring”.
The community expressed their gratitude for Dr. Agbaje’s visit and conveyed their appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the prompt response to the incident.
They also urged the government to prioritize the construction and improvement of the road to ensure the safety of residents who rely on this critical route daily.
