009olljj5225355109193467347 Architecture enthusiasts, professionals, and students gathered at the Conference Hall of the School of Agricultural Studies, LASUSTECH, Ikorodu, for the Biennial General Meeting (BGM) hosted by the Nigerian Institute of Architects Lagos State Chapter Ikorodu Branch.
The theme, "Cities, Communities, and Homes: The Making of a Livable Urban Spaces," set the stage for discussions on urban planning and architectural awareness.
The event, attended by students from LASUSTECH and Caleb University, featured a changing of the guard as new leadership was elected for the next two years.
Outgoing branch chairman, Arc.  Victor Achime FNIA, emphasized the importance of cautious building practices in the face of Ikorodu's increasing population, urging government intervention through a master plan.
Vice Chairman (and incoming chairman) Arc. Gbolahan Olatunbosun Kukoyi MNIA highlighted the BGM's role in assessing road usability and evaluating leadership accomplishments.
He commended the institute's impact on architectural education at Caleb University and LASUSTECH.
Keynote speaker Prof Oluwole Alagbe FNIA, addressed the need for livable communities, emphasizing the prevention of overpopulation-related casualties. He presented a slide to guide guests on achieving this balance.
Lagos State Chairman, Arc. David Majekodunmi FNIA, congratulated the newly elected leadership, urging them to continue promoting the architectural sector.
He praised the outgoing chairman's leadership qualities and called for emulation by the incoming administration.
International associate of the American Institute of Architects, Arc. Abimbola Ajayi FNIA highlighted the program's role in learning about cities, communities, homes, and accessibility.
Arc. Abimbola, past chairman of NIALSC and past HGS NIA, encouraged the new leadership to build on past success and position the Ikorodu branch as a figurehead in Nigeria's architectural landscape.
The late Pa Michael Olotusen Onofowokan, a precursor in Nigerian architecture, hailing from Ikorodu, was remembered as a source of inspiration for the branch's aspirations.
The BGM concluded with the leadership pledging their commitment to continue advancing architectural excellence and promoting livable urban spaces.
In attendance were the newly inducted fellows from the branch: Prof. Samuel Adedeji Daramola FNIA; Prof. Oladipo Dare-Abel, represented by Arc Olufunmilola Adenubi, Lagos State executive members, including the Vice Chair of the Chapter, Arc Abiodun Fatuyi, Arc Ebenezer Odeyale and Arc Charles Maduka, and also Dr Anthony Folahan Adenaike, the HoD of the Department of Architecture at LASUSTECH.
