Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, has urged market men and women to collaboratively nominate the next Iya-Oloja general of Ikorodu.
Speaking at a meeting on Monday at the council secretariat hall, Adesina emphasized the need for unity in selecting a suitable successor following the passing of Alhaja Taofikat Allison.
Adesina highlighted the significance of the market sector’s administrative guidelines falling under the local government’s jurisdiction.
He stressed that the responsibility of choosing a leader for the Iya-Oloja general position lies with the market people, and it is crucial to fill the void left by Alhaja Taofikat Allison.
“The constitution empowers the market people to select their ideal leader, and once chosen, I’ll accompany them to present the leader to the king,” Adesina explained in an interview with Ikorodu News Network (INN).
Expressing dissatisfaction with the nomination process of the Iya-Oloja of Sabo, Adesina clarified that the market office at Sabo belongs to the local government.
He also disapproved of the chiefs forcefully opening the office without proper council involvement.
Adesina recounted, “We called a meeting for all market men and women, but simply because we were not part of the selection, the Iya-Oloja of Sabo did not come.”
In conclusion, the chairman noted that he has allotted the market community 3 days to convene and harmoniously select the next Iya-Oloja general of Ikorodu, emphasizing the importance of adhering to constitutional processes in choosing market leaders.
