Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, joined hands with Smart Gas to usher in the festive season by distributing 500 filled gas cylinders to households within Ikorodu Local Government jurisdiction.
This impactful event which was deemed a yuletide palliative program by the council, unfolded at the council secretariat on the 21st of December 2023, where the spirit of giving was further manifested as indigent individuals received bountiful gifts of bags of rice directly from the chairman.
Addressing the gathered crowd, Chairman Adesina underscored the multifaceted goals of the initiative, emphasizing that it goes beyond merely alleviating the seasonal burden for the people.
He articulated a broader vision that encompasses empowering residents, and providing them with the means to actively contribute to the economic growth of the community.
“As a responsive leader, it is my solemn duty to heed the voice of our community,” declared Adesina.
“Recognizing the profound significance of bringing joy to our people during this special season, my administration collaborated with Smart Gas to extend a helping hand through the provision of home cooking gas cylinders”.
“This serves as a palliative measure, mitigating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, particularly during this festive period.”
The chairman expounded on the practical advantages inherent in the distribution of gas cylinders, elucidating, “This strategic step represents a move towards a more convenient, healthier, and environmentally friendly cooking solution”.
“Beyond the immediate joy it brings, it addresses long-standing issues by reducing health risks associated with smoke inhalation, minimizing carbon emissions, and actively participating in the crucial effort to curb deforestation.”
The beneficiaries of this thoughtful initiative form a diverse spectrum of the community, encompassing residents, market women, artisans, security personnel, physically challenged individuals, members of the Ndigbo and Arewa communities, party members and leaders, staff, and the youth, among others.
The inclusive nature of the distribution reflects Hon. Wasiu Adesina’s commitment to ensuring that the positive impact is felt across various segments of the local populace.
As the gas cylinders find their way into homes and the aroma of shared rice wafts through the air, Beneficiaries who later spoke to Ikorodu News Network (INN) said Adesina’s festive gesture has been considered by residents to resonate as a beacon of hope and goodwill, fostering a sense of unity and community spirit during this joyous season in Ikorodu Local Government.
