Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, unveiled plans to construct a new church chapel within the council premises.
This revelation occurred during the council’s annual January prayer and Thanksgiving event on the 4th of January, 2024.
The event, designed to seek divine guidance for the upcoming year’s activities, drew the participation of a diverse group, including council staff, councillors, executive arm members, apex officials, and the APC party members.
The proceedings were marked by an engaging spiritual session led by Clergyman Pastor Femi Gilbert.
Pastor Gilbert, in his sessions of praise, prayer, and exhortation, commended Chairman Adesina for instilling a spiritual focus at the onset of the year.
National Missioner Iradat Family, Alhaji (Dr) Shakirudeen Akanni Adegbolahan, took the podium to address Muslim attendees, urging them to embrace Islamic teachings for a prosperous new year.
He applauded Chairman Adesina’s commitment to seeking divine guidance for the council, emphasizing the inclusivity of the event.
Hon. Wasiu Adesina expressed gratitude to all attendees and underscored the significance of seeking God’s wisdom in the initial quarter of the year.
He formally declared Pastor Femi Gilbert and Alhaji Shakirudeen Akanni Adegbolahan as the official clergymen of the council, cementing their roles in future spiritual events.
The pivotal moment of the event came when Chairman Adesina unveiled plans for the construction of a church chapel within the local government premises.
“The chapel would be built in the next 6 months,” he announced, adding that the site for the church would be officially commissioned the following week, signalling the commencement of construction.
In addition to the church chapel, Chairman Adesina addressed plans for a legislative building, detailing its features, including a 10-mini flat room structure, a conference hall, and a glass-fashioned legislative chamber.
He expressed regret over delays, citing the necessity of awaiting approval from the State Government.
Politically, Chairman Adesina declared 2024 as a year of reconciliation within the party, emphasizing the resolution of any internal conflicts for a united front.
Comrade Adebambo O. Kazeem, Chairman NULGE IKDLG, delivered a vote of thanks, commending Chairman Adesina’s leadership qualities.
He urged local government employees to collaborate with the council and proposed a subsequent meeting to address pending requests, expressing confidence in the chairman’s ability to provide solutions to challenges.
Notable guests at the event included Vice Chairman Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Council Secretary Alhaji Lateef Afinni, Legislative Chamber Leader Hon. Adebowale Adebola, Former Lagos State Head of Service Commission Alhaji Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa, and Alhaja Rashidat Bello, APC Women leader of Ikorodu division.
