Poised towards enhancing rural infrastructure, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Rural Development, held a stakeholder meeting at Ijake Community, where he announced the commencement of the Ijake Community Road Project.
During the meeting on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Dr. Agbaje shared the news of the initiation of the construction of Ijake Road in Oto-Awori LCDA, Ojo, Lagos State.
The 400-meter road project is set to kick off in February, with a targeted completion time of six months.
Dr. Agbaje underscored the significance of this initiative in aligning with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda, aimed at transforming Lagos into a 21st Century Economy.
The road project seeks to reduce travel time, enhance transportation, and foster economic growth in the grassroots communities.
In his address, Dr. Agbaje urged community members to collaborate with the appointed contractor, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of the workforce.
He encouraged them to take ownership of the project upon completion, guarding and preserving the infrastructure for future generations.
Highlighting the inclusivity of the project, Dr. Agbaje revealed that the contractor is committed to engaging qualified youths from the community as part of the workforce, both in skilled and unskilled capacities.
Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, applauded Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to implementing the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda in rural communities.
She emphasized the importance of community partnership to ensure the timely delivery of the Ijake Road Project.
The chairman of Oto-Awori LCDA, Prince Musibau Adekunle Ashafa, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing Oto-Awori in the development agenda.
His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Ikuyamiku Ilemobade Aina, the Oloto of Ato-Awori, also commended the Governor, while appealing for additional projects like rural electrification and potable water.
Representing the community, Mr. Olusegun Bello, the CDA Chairman, assured the Governor of the community’s commitment to safeguarding the project upon completion, demonstrating appreciation for the developmental efforts in Ijake.
The stakeholders meeting witnessed the presence of key figures, including the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Bolaji Kayode Robert, Community Development Associations, Community Leaders, Youth Leaders, Religious Bodies, Market Leaders, and residents of the community.
