In a bid to combat the rising tide of drug abuse among the youths in Ikorodu, the National Youth Council Of Nigeria (NYCN) Ikorodu Local Government Chapter organized a seminar on the 20th of February 2024, themed “STOP THE CRIME CAMPAIGN.”
The event, held at the Ita_Elewa Youth Center, aimed to enlighten students about the detrimental effects of drug abuse in society.
The program drew participants from 14 schools within Ikorodu Local Government, with notable representatives from Ewu_Elepe Methodist Primary School 1 and 2, Oga Primary School 1 and 2, Able Brain Comprehensive, Fatom Private School, Mipat Generation, Noble Winners College, Muslim Primary School, Government Technical College, Adebas International, Da Lot Vile, Front Runner City College, and Ultimate Villa FA.
Distinguished guests, including Barrister Adekoya, Mr Salami Taiwo (Secretary IDPIL), Mr Majolagbe Olashile, Mrs Eyitayo M.O, Mrs. Tolulope (Representative NDLEA), Alhaja Alagbe R. A, and iHeroes Media, graced the occasion, underscoring the importance of addressing the pervasive issue.
Comr. Idris Omotayo, Coordinator of NYCN Ikorodu Chapter, welcomed the distinguished leaders and emphasized the campaign’s two-year-long effort, with the focus in 2024 squarely on combating drug abuse.
He urged students to embrace the motto, “When you see something, say something,” encouraging them not to stay silent in the face of immorality.
Highlighting the alarming rise in drug abuse affecting mental health, Comr. Omotayo stressed the need to educate the younger generation.
Mrs Olulope from NDLEA elaborated on the dangers of drug abuse, urging students to seek counselling and emphasizing the importance of timely intervention.
President of iHeroes, Mr Majolagbe Olashile, labelled drug abuse as an epidemic and called for collective efforts to sensitize the younger generation.
Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative’s Mr. Salami Taiwo underscored the misuse of drugs, cautioning against environmental influences and distractions.
Barrister (Mrs) Adekoya and Alhaja (Mrs) Alagbe R . A delivered motivational messages, encouraging students to focus on success, pursue education, and avoid unhealthy comparisons.
In the concluding remarks, Comr. Awolesi Olabisi expressed gratitude to all speakers, teachers, students, and participants for their invaluable contributions to the event.
