On March 16, 2024, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo, led a delegation from the LCDA administration to Odogunyan Grammar School, the venue for the ‘Ounje Eko’ Sunday Food Market.
This market is part of a commendable social intervention initiative initiated by the Lagos State Government to address the challenges posed by the global food crisis.
Accompanied by key members of the Ikorodu North LCDA administration, including Prince Niyi Odugbesi, SLG; Hon. Princess Abimbola Adaramola, Councillor; Hon. Sulaimon Adewusi, Supervisor for Information; Hon. Basirat Adewumi, Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; and Hon. Ogunbela, Supervisor for Agriculture, the council boss visited the market location to show solidarity with the community members.
The ‘Ounje Eko’ Sunday Food Market initiative aims to ensure easy access to affordable food supplies for all residents and commenced on March 17, 2024.
Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo expressed full confidence in this initiative spearheaded by His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, emphasizing its potential to significantly alleviate the burden of rising food costs in traditional markets.
Acknowledging minor challenges experienced during the inaugural edition, the chairman reassured residents of the LCDA by highlighting the dedication of market personnel to promptly address these issues.
He urged the residents to remain patient and cooperate with the state government and market authorities to maximize the benefits of the program.
Furthermore, Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo affirmed his administration’s full commitment to supporting Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s vision of improving the welfare of the people.
He pledged to deploy all necessary resources to ensure the smooth execution of the ‘Ounje Eko’ Sunday Food Market initiative, with plans underway to ensure that nearly every household in the LCDA benefits from this weekly market.
As the ‘Ounje Eko’ Sunday Food Market continues to unfold across all 57 local governments and LCDAs in Lagos State, stakeholders are optimistic about its potential to mitigate the effects of the global food crisis while fostering community resilience and social cohesion.
