The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has brought attention to the growing apprehension surrounding the act of spraying the Nigerian currency, the naira, at social events.

Dabiri-Erewa recounted her recent experience at a birthday party, where she observed a palpable fear among attendees regarding the practice of spraying money.

Taking to her Instagram page, Dabiri-Erewa shared a video expressing her surprise at the reluctance of party-goers to engage in the tradition of naira spraying.

She emphasized the need to uphold dignity and class while partaking in this cultural custom.

This hesitation to engage in naira spraying comes amidst a backdrop of legal actions taken against individuals accused of abusing the national currency.

Notably, the Federal High Court in Lagos recently convicted controversial figure Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, for his involvement in the abuse of the naira.

Bobrisky was sentenced to six months imprisonment, signaling a strict stance against such practices.

In a similar vein, prominent businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, faced legal proceedings for allegedly spraying and tampering with the naira at a social event.

Despite pleading not guilty, Okechukwu was arraigned on three counts related to the abuse of the national currency.

He was subsequently granted bail under strict conditions.

The convergence of these legal actions and public scrutiny has contributed to a climate of caution among individuals participating in naira spraying, as evidenced by Dabiri-Erewa’s observations.
