The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) celebrated its 3rd anniversary today with a media conference at its secretariat, marked by the rebranding of its Local Joint Task Force (LJTF) and announcements of plans.
Presided over by Executive Secretary Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, the conference detailed the anniversary program and plans for fundraising to support the initiative’s objectives.
Key stakeholders present included the Board of Trustees Chairman, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN, former Head of Service Commission Chairman Basorun Tajudeen Rotinwa, and IKODASS Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Erogbogbo, Ikorodu Central CDC chairman, Alhaji Lukman Shonibare and traditional rulers.
A highlight of the event was the rebranding of the IDPIL-LJTF, which will now be known by the Yoruba name “IDAGIRI-EKUN,” unveiled by Sir Otunba Ayodele Elesho, the Chairman of the Publicity and Education Committee.
“We are not unmindful of the challenges that lie ahead of us as a body,” stated Otunba Elesho.
“Given this, we have decided to reposition our Local Joint Task Force by rebranding them with a local name that can easily resonate with our teeming residents, particularly the locals and inner communities.”
The rebranding aims to present the task force as a formidable deterrent to criminal elements within Ikorodu.
“The choice of the animal, Black Jaguar, known as ‘IDAGIRI-EKUN’ in Yoruba, underscores the nature and character of the animal in hunting down its prey in a tactical manner, uncommon to other predators.
These unique characteristics are synonymous with the rebranded IDPIL-LJTF,” Elesho explained.
He also announced that the new brand name will be reflected on the task force’s uniforms, patrol vehicles, and motorcycles.
“When next you see the IDPIL LJTF, you will be right to call or refer to them as IDAGIRI-EKUN,” he added.
Elesho emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security outfits, whether government or private, to combat crime effectively.
“IDPIL is ever ready to collaborate with any vigilance groups or security outfits, be it government or private, that are sincerely prepared to combat crimes and all sorts of nefarious activities that are capable of hindering the progress of our dear country, particularly Ikorodu division.”
He also expressed gratitude for the support from the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in Ikorodu Division and the CP’s STRIKE team, acknowledging their crucial role in IDPIL’s successes.
