Basorun Babatunde Rotinwa, the former Lagos Head of Service Chairman, has called for a reconciliation summit between the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL) and the local government chairmen across the Ikorodu division.

The appeal was made during the 3rd-anniversary press conference of IDPIL held on the 11th of June 2024 at the agency’s secretariat.

Addressing the executives of the security initiative, Rotinwa emphasized the necessity of finding common ground to enhance the security architecture of the region.

He highlighted that such collaboration would foster greater tranquillity across the waterbed region of Lagos State.

“The reconciliation will further enhance the security architecture of the region and bestow more peace and progress across the waterbed region of Lagos State,” Rotinwa stated.

Rotinwa urged the initiative not to delay until after the 2025 local government elections but to start building a unified security force with the local councils immediately.

He stressed that the upcoming summit intended to be organized by IDPIL presents an ideal opportunity for this reconciliation.

“When it comes to security, it is only when we work together that we will achieve greater results,” Rotinwa asserted.

“Yes, Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) since inception has done tremendously well for the past 3 years to reduce crimes across the division, but we can do better if we do it together.”

He further encouraged the integration of the IDPIL security outfit with the council task force, advocating for a united front in tackling security challenges in  Ikorodu division.

“I believe that a reconciliation summit will pave the way for more coordinated efforts and a strengthened security framework in Ikorodu”.

“It is time to bring everyone to the table for the greater good of Ikorodu division, even if it means both the IDPIL security outfit and the council task force will work together, then let’s make it happen,” Rotinwa concluded.

The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative, established three years ago, has been instrumental in addressing security issues within the region.
