Marking its 3rd anniversary in grand style, the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL) has inaugurated a multi-million naira project to construct a state-of-the-art renal dialysis centre at Ikorodu General Hospital.
The project aims to significantly enhance healthcare services in the region, addressing a critical need for kidney treatment facilities.
The ground floor of the new building, covering approximately 600 square meters, will include a reception area, pharmacy, nurse station, core room for nurses and doctors, a nurse lounge, equipment storage room, and a water treatment room.
The upper floor will house an intensive care unit, two wards with 16 beds, an open office, core room, and a nurse lounge. Additionally, there will be two rear exits for safety and convenience.
At the flag-off ceremony, notable figures from traditional institutions, stakeholders, and community leaders gathered to celebrate this milestone.
Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN, the major donor for the project, assured that the center would be completed within one year.
He explained the importance of the initiative, noting that the current lack of renal care facilities at Ikorodu General Hospital has forced patients to seek treatment elsewhere, often with dire consequences.
Dr. Taiwo Hassan, CEO of Ikorodu General Hospital, highlighted the hospital’s growth from four departments to 32.
Despite this expansion, the hospital has been unable to adequately support kidney patients. “Our ICU handles about 10 kidney cases per week, underscoring the urgency of this project,” Dr. Hassan stated.
He also pointed out that diabetes and hypertension, prevalent in the community, are major contributors to kidney problems.
Otunba Ayodele Elesho expressed gratitude to all leaders present and praised the initiative for occurring “in our own time.”
He also thanked Chief Ogunsanya and the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, for their consistent dedication to the community’s welfare.
Elesho revealed aspirations for Ikorodu General Hospital to become a teaching hospital, which he believes will further promote the region.
Chief Ogunsanya furthermore emphasized that the project is a collective effort by IDPIL, acknowledging the support of local kings and leaders.
He credited Olori Kudirat Abosede Shotobi, the wife of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, with inspiring the idea of the dialysis centre and expressed his wish to name the centre after her once completed.
He assured that IDPIL would provide state-of-the-art equipment for the centre and encouraged the hospital to seek IDPIL’s support whenever necessary.
The ceremony also featured remarks from the Ranodu of Imota, HRM Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, who praised Chief Ogunsanya and IDPIL for prioritizing the needs of Ikorodu Division.
The Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, also commended the initiative and urged local leaders to preserve nearby lands for future development projects.
He thanked the Odofin for always ensuring to prioritise project that pertains to the development of Ikorodu division through the IDPIL.
“This groundbreaking project promises to elevate the standard of healthcare in Ikorodu, ensuring better medical support for patients with kidney ailments and contributing to the overall development of the region” Oba Shotobi asserted.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, HRM Oba Olukayode Raji, the Eweye of Isiu, HRM Oba Aremu Shotonwa Sekumade of Ipakodo, and Pa Aremo Adeniyi Ogunsanya, head of the Ogunsanya family.
The milestone event was anchored by the Executive Secretary of Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative IDPIL, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru.
