
The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) marked its third anniversary at the secretariat on June 11, 2024, with a comprehensive review of its achievements in the past three years.
The event was attended by news reporters, stakeholders, and notable dignitaries.
The initiative, which has made significant strides in education, health, and security, held a media parley to highlight its accomplishments.
Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, the Executive Secretary, emphasized the reduction in cult clashes, land-grabbing activities, and armed robbery cases, attributing this success to the efforts of over 150 well-trained Local Joint Task Force (LJTF) personnel.
“The current relative peace and security being enjoyed across Ikorodu Division is largely a result of the selfless sacrifices,” said Otunba Abiru.
He also mentioned the need for continued financial support to upgrade the security architecture of IDPIL.
Sir Otunba Ayodele, Chairman of the Publicity and Education Committee, announced the rebranding of the LJTF as IDAGIRI-EKUN.
He outlined several accomplishments made possible through donor support and public platforms, including:
- Training and equipping 200 LJTF operatives at the Police College, Ikeja.
- Presentation of 17 patrol vehicles, 40 motorcycles, and hundreds of uniforms.
- Significant reduction in cult clashes and land-grabbing activities.
- Regular raids and arrests of cultists and armed robbery kingpins in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.
- Restoration of peace in troubled communities through mediation.
- Provision of critical security tip-offs to agencies.
- Light-Up Ayayo Street project in Imota to enhance security.
- Donation of a 40kVA generator and three air conditioners to the Igbogbo Passport Office.
- Hosting annual Peace and Security Stakeholders’ meetings.
- Annual War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaigns in schools and neighborhoods.
- Rehabilitation of over 120 drug abusers and cultists.
- Establishing a partnership with NDLEA, reducing drug sales outlets.
Mr. Rotimi Erogbogbo, Chairman of the Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), praised the initiative and urged for local government involvement to reduce the burden on IDPIL.
He suggested (IDPIL) organize a summit to galvanize more support, a proposal noted by Otunba Abiru.
Deaconess Busola Isikalu, Iya-Oloja General of Ikorodu Division, lauded the initiative and called for more stakeholder support.
Barrister Adekoya Olatoun also commended IDPIL for bringing tranquillity to Ikorodu and encouraged continued support from stakeholders.
Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, reiterated the focus on Ikorodu Division and thanked all involved for their contributions.
He highlighted the essence of IDPIL’s establishment being justified through its numerous accomplishments.
A three-year anniversary documentary showcasing IDPIL’s journey was presented, and stakeholders were urged to support the initiative through donations.
The bank details for contributions were shared, emphasizing the need for funds and security equipment to enhance LJTF’s effectiveness.
Otunba Elesho unveiled the initiative’s new symbol and brand “IDAGIRI EKUN,” designed to deter criminal activities, concluding the event on a high note.
