IKORODU LOCAL GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES 11-MEMBER COMMITTEE FOR 2ND ANNUAL INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Ikorodu, July 11, 2024 – In a bid to enhance public speaking skills and boost student confidence, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina has inaugurated an 11-member committee to oversee the 2024 Annual Inter-School Debate Competition.

The initiative is its 2nd edition, marking a significant step in promoting educational excellence and fostering a culture of healthy intellectual competition among students in Ikorodu.

During the inauguration ceremony at the council’s conference room, Hon. Adesina explained the innovative nature of the inter-school debate, emphasizing its role in promoting healthy competition among students and enhancing their public speaking abilities.

He stressed the importance of this initiative in preparing students for future leadership roles by equipping them with essential communication skills.

The newly formed committee, which includes representatives from various sectors of the local government and education community at the private sector, is tasked with ensuring the seamless execution of the debate competition.

This includes coordinating efforts with the project organizers, Kaodwads and Associates, to deliver an event that meets international standards.

“I urge the committee to work diligently and collaboratively to achieve an exceptional debate competition that sets a high benchmark,”.

“We look forward to receiving the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu to grace the grand finale, which would either take place at the Ikorodu Ultra-modern Town Hall or at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).” Hon. Adesina remarked

The committee members are as follows: Hon. Lateef Afinni (Secretary to the Local Government) – Committee Chairman, Mr. Adeyinka Kazeem – Co-Chairman, Mr. Adedeji Owolabi (HOD Education) – Committee Secretary, Hon. Idris Shokunbi – Member, Hon. Murisiku Shafari – Member, Hon. Rasheedat Bello (SSA Women Affairs) – Member, Comr. Basit Ogunsanmi (Coordinator NYCN) – Member, Comr. Usman Toba-Dosumu L.A. (President Ikorodu Students Association) – Member, Mr. Muhammed Ismail Anjola – Member, Miss Oluwole Taofikat – Member, and Hon. Afeez Banwo – Member.

    The committee’s formation reflects the beginning of preparations for what is anticipated to be a highly competitive and educational event, contributing significantly to the intellectual development of students within the local government area.

    Hon. Lateef Afinni, Secretary to the Local Government and chairman of the planning committee, assured the council chairman of the committee’s commitment to performing effectively toward the success of the program.

    He added that the second edition will realize more positive outcomes than its predecessor.

    Mr. Muhammed Ismail Anjola, speaking on behalf of Kaodwads and Associates executive director Mr. Adeyinka Kazeem, stated that the organization has been seeking a collaboration that would elevate the educational competition to the state level.

    He expressed confidence that with the local government’s partnership, the event would scale higher.

    He commended the support of the executive chairman, noting that Adesina’s commitment to education is evident in his support for the program.

    Mr. Adedeji Owolabi (HOD Education) concluded the ceremony by expressing his eagerness to work with the organizers to ensure the second edition’s success.
