Abdulazeez Yussuf Owolewa Atebo, known by his alias Ayo Nbo, officially announced his candidacy for the position of Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area on the 17th of July 2024.

The declaration event, held at Ikorodu Club Hall, was well-attended by numerous community members and notable figures.

The gathering served as a platform for Owolewa to outline his campaign goals and familiarize the residents of Ikorodu with his vision ahead of the upcoming elections in 2025.

Among the attendees were Alhaji Sheikh Abdul Ganiu Kamoju, Alhaji Muzee Aare, youth leaders, ward members, and other distinguished guests.

Owolewa, also known as Atebo, emphasized the importance of addressing basic needs over grandiose projects, advocating for a focus on fundamental issues to yield more significant results.

His campaign approach prioritizes essential, people-centered projects, believing that providing basic services can profoundly impact the community without excessive expenditure.

He proposed upgrading existing healthcare facilities instead of constructing new ones, highlighting the need for more human resources in some centres.

Atebo suggested employing retired matrons to bring valuable experience at a lower cost and acquiring laboratory equipment to offer affordable diagnostic services.

Atebo also commended the current Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Barrister Adewumi Ogunsanya SAN, for his efforts in enhancing local security.

He plans to collaborate with Community Development Associations (CDAs) to strengthen security measures and ensure local security teams have the necessary resources.

In the education sector, Atebo proposed creating subject-specific centres within school premises to eliminate the need for students to travel and incur additional expenses.

He aims to provide teachers with the necessary supplies and maintain well-kept school environments.

He stressed the importance of making proper use of existing infrastructure before constructing new buildings, pointing out numerous underutilized structures in Ikorodu.

Atebo also plans to offer summer training programs for youth, inviting experts to teach valuable skills, and emphasized the need for employability training and orientation for those entering higher education.

Additionally, he mentioned initiatives to empower women and mothers in the community.

Atebo expressed optimism about the local government’s autonomy, which he believes will eliminate the issue of imposed leadership.

He criticized the current system where leaders impose their choices on the people and emphasized the need for genuine representation and accountability.

In conclusion, Atebo hinted at a unique vision for public transportation, choosing not to elaborate to avoid others adopting his ideas prematurely.

He conveyed confidence in his ability to lead the community towards meaningful and sustainable development, ensuring that the voices and needs of the people are prioritized.
