On July 19, 2024, Ikorodu Local Government convened a stakeholders meeting at the main entry point of the bustling Sabo Market.
The stakeholders’ engagement was part of the local government’s strategic plan to commence the construction of an interlocking road for the market, following the successful repair of the market’s drainage system.
The meeting brought together market men and women, residents, and various stakeholders to deliberate on the plans and approaches by the council to ensure the project’s timely completion.
This inclusive gathering highlighted the local government’s commitment to transparency and community involvement in the development process.
During the meeting, Alhaji MD Hassan, the head of the Arewa community in Ikorodu Division, praised the Executive Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, for his continuous support and dedication.
He lauded the chairman’s efforts in fixing the market drainage and commended the upcoming interlocking road project.
“The chairman has been consistent in listening to the voices of the residents,” said Alhaji Hassan, “and this project is a reflection of his commitment.”
Hon. Wasiu Shotomiwa (Papy), the Councillor representing Ward-D, also expressed his appreciation for the chairman’s initiative.
He highlighted the importance of road construction in enhancing market operations and improving the overall experience for both traders and customers.
“Chairman Adesina’s competence in addressing our infrastructure needs demonstrates good governance,” Shotomiwa stated.
In his speech, Chairman Adesina announced that the construction of the Sabo Market entry road would commence imminently.
He explained that the first phase of the project, involving drainage, had been completed a year ago, and now it was time to focus on the road itself.
Adesina urged market men and women to cooperate with the contractors during the construction period.
To ensure a swift completion, he emphasized the importance of avoiding parking at the market entry point and restricting vehicular access, allowing only foot traffic.
The chairman also expressed gratitude to the state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for granting local governments the freedom to undertake projects that benefit their regions.
He further thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting local government autonomy, which has enabled such impactful initiatives.
Another key stakeholder, Alhaji Sulaiman Korough, shared his appreciation for the chairman’s dedication to executing meaningful projects.
He noted that Adesina’s proactive approach had positively impacted the community.
Looking ahead, Chairman Adesina announced plans to address drainage issues on all major roads within Ikorodu Local Government, underscoring his administration’s commitment to comprehensive infrastructure development.
The stakeholders meeting concluded with a shared sense of optimism and anticipation for the positive changes the interlocking road construction will bring to Sabo Market and the wider Ikorodu community.
