On July 30, 2024, the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat Hall hosted the 2024 Annual Interactive Programme, organized by the Community Development Committee (CDC).
The event focused on “Curbing Domestic Violence, Ensuring Justice for All, and Educating on the Right to Will in Our Communities.”
Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, addressed attendees, urging community leaders and stakeholders to promote peace in light of the planned nationwide protest.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration with law enforcement in managing complex situations and ensuring that justice and safety are upheld within the community.
The forum featured contributions from key agencies, including the Lagos State Domestic Violence Agency, the Office of the Public Defender, the Right to Will organization, and the Ministry of Health’s State Health Educator.
In his speech, Hon. Adesina praised the CDC for its ongoing efforts and consistency since the previous administration.
He explained recent government initiatives aimed at addressing the concerns driving the planned protests, including the increment in minimum wage, local government autonomy, student loan schemes, and reductions in import duties on essential food items.
“The presidency is actively working to mitigate the impact of its policies through various welfare schemes,” Adesina noted.
“These measures, along with our local efforts, are intended to address the issues raised by the proposed protests. I urge our youths to reconsider participating in these demonstrations.”
Adesina reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the equitable distribution of democratic benefits and invited community members to approach his office with their concerns.
He encouraged a collective focus on agriculture as a path to economic resilience.
“This is a time for unity and constructive engagement,” he concluded.
“My office remains open to addressing your issues and will act swiftly to support our community’s needs.”
