In a recent press briefing, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing that the one-year and two-months tenure thus far is insufficient for a comprehensive evaluation of the administration’s performance.
“If there is anything unclear to us as a people, we should reach out to the government. This administration operates with an open-door policy and listens to everyone, ” the chairman said.
During his address, Adesina used his leadership of Ikorodu Local Government as an illustrative case study to explain the tangible improvements made under his watch.
He pointed out that despite the council’s existence for over 50 years, it was during his tenure that significant infrastructural upgrades were achieved.
These include the installation of proper roofing at the Secretariat, the addition of windows, numerous toilets, interlocking roads, and new furnishings aimed at creating a conducive working environment.
On community impact, Adesina reported that his administration has successfully installed over 10 standard boreholes across Ikorodu, benefitting areas such as Ojogbe, Eleshin, Grammar School, Itunlewe, Ita-Elewa, Aga, Pasoku, and Gberigbe. This initiative aims to improve access to clean water for residents.
In the healthcare sector, Adesina shared that the renovation of the Primary Health Centre at Agura is nearing completion, following similar work on the PHC at Ita-Elewa.
The Chairman also highlighted efforts to foster creative productivity through a recycling initiative designed to promote environmental health and generate income for residents.
Furthermore, the council is in the process of acquiring land in Epe to encourage agricultural activities. This project aims to produce farm products that will be sold at more affordable prices in the market.
Regarding youth empowerment, Adesina noted that his administration has pioneered various programs, including the distribution of mini buses to young entrepreneurs.
Additionally, items such as gas cylinders, grinding machines, and generators have been provided to residents to support their livelihoods.
In conclusion, Adesina appealed to Ikorodu residents, Lagos State citizens, and Nigerians at large to remain patient with the current administration, expressing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He assured that the positive impacts of these administrations will soon become evident.
