IKORODU LOCAL GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES FASHION DESIGNING TRAINING PROGRAM TO EMPOWER 100 YOUTHS ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Ikorodu, Nigeria – July 6, 2024 – Ikorodu Local Government proudly inaugurated its Fashion Designing Training Program today at the Council’s Secretariat Hall.

This creative initiative is designed to empower 100 youths from Ikorodu, aiming to unlock their creative potential and equip them with the necessary skills to thrive in the fashion industry.

The Fashion Designing Training Program represents a vital step in fostering the creative talents of Ikorodu’s youth.

The event was graced by several notable dignitaries, including the Vice-Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Aarebirin Hon. Dr. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Leader of the House, Hon. Adebowale Adebola, and the Secretary to the Local Government, Alhaji Lateef Afinni.

The ceremony was further enhanced by the presence of local supervisors, members of the council’s management team, and the trainees themselves, who will be the primary beneficiaries of the program.

Aimed to provide participants with hands-on training from industry experts, the initiative offers youth valuable insights into fashion design and business practices.

By doing so, the program seeks to cultivate a new generation of skilled professionals who can contribute significantly to the local and national fashion industries.

During the launch, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina delivered a compelling speech about the importance of fashion beyond just clothing.

He described fashion as a medium of self-expression, confidence, and cultural identity.

Adesina emphasized that fashion holds the power to transform not only individual lives but also communities and economies.

He encouraged the trainees to approach the program with passion and dedication and promised that the top-performing trainee would be rewarded with fashion equipment at no cost.

In his remarks, Adesina also outlined the broader economic impact of the program.

He noted that the skills acquired through this initiative would have a ripple effect, creating more job opportunities and supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.

Additionally, he announced plans for an upcoming economic booster program, which will include loans for small and medium enterprises and farmers to further enhance local economic development.

Mrs. Adetoun Awofeso, one of the training facilitators, highlighted the program’s goal to reduce Nigeria’s dependency on imported fashion items.

She underscored the importance of shifting from a consumption-based economy to one focused on production.

Awofeso praised the creativity and energy of Nigeria’s youth, emphasizing that with the right support and technical expertise, the nation could become a significant player in the global fashion industry.

Alhaji Musiliu Lawal-Animashaun, also known as De-Cubano, provided inspiration to the participants by referencing a successful Ikorodu indigene, Mrs Alakija Folorunsho who began her career as a fashion designer.

He encouraged the trainees to remain focused and dedicated, assuring them that their commitment would enable them to achieve their dreams.

Chief Adebayo Olomo, Baale Ojogbe, echoed these sentiments, praising the initiative as a crucial step towards youth employment and self-sufficiency.

Mrs. Yetunde Akande, another facilitator and beauty director at Yetroselane Fashion Hub, expressed her gratitude to the Ikorodu local government for facilitating this rare opportunity.

She emphasized that the program would not only provide practical training but also impart essential business skills to ensure the participants’ success as fashion designers.

Akande urged the youths to take full advantage of the program, which includes a combination of practical and technical training over a one-month period, followed by internships and further empowerment opportunities.

The initiative represents a pivotal step in nurturing local talent and driving the expansion of the fashion industry in Ikorodu and the wider region.

Participants Aanu Oluwadarasimi and Sophiat Folahanmi took to the podium to express their gratitude to the council and facilitators.

They conveyed their appreciation for the support received and emphasized their commitment to making the most of the training opportunity.

Both participants assured that everyone shortlisted for the training would fully utilize their time and efforts, aiming to justify the support provided by the council.
