On August 19, 2024, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, announced a range of new community projects during the flag-off ceremony for a major 2-sided drainage project in the Itundegun axis of Ikorodu Central.
The event, which was pivotal in celebrating infrastructure development in the region, also served as a platform for presenting these upcoming initiatives, according to the council boss.
Hon. Adesina revealed plans to renovate the Liwe Shrine, a crucial cultural landmark aiming to enhance its edifice and maintain its cultural relevance.
The local government will also distribute General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms free of charge to ease the financial burden on students and their families and to improve educational access.
Adesina asserted that the council’s inter-school debate competition will promote intellectual engagement among students, fostering critical thinking and public speaking skills.
He added that the grand finale aims to feature Lagos State First Lady Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who is expected to honour the top three students.
To support local businesses, zero-interest loans will be made available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), aiming to stimulate economic growth and job creation.
Additionally, discounted food sales will help address the rising cost of living by providing more affordable access to essential groceries.
Adesina explained, “These initiatives underscore my administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Ikorodu, addressing both immediate and long-term community needs.
“The ongoing drainage project in Itundegun is expected to mitigate flooding issues in the Itundegun area, aligning with the broader goals of these new programs,”
“Our communities look forward to these developments, which promise to bring significant benefits and strengthen the resilience of Ikorodu,” Adesina added.
