ADESINA FLAG-OFF 1,686-METER DUAL-SIDED DRAINAGE PROJECT TO REVAMP INNER IKORODU COMMUNITIES ~ INN Nigeria ☆



Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, officially inaugurated a significant drainage infrastructure project in Itundegun, Ward C.

The project, which kicked off on thd 19th of August 2024 encompasses the installation of a 1,686-meter dual-sided drainage system, extending from Ita-Elewa to Itunmaja, with sections also passing through Ajina and Obale.

During a stakeholders’ meeting held at Itundegun, Chairman Adesina emphasized the critical role of community cooperation with contractors to ensure the project’s success.

He outlined that the drainage system will feature modern covered slabs to enhance durability and aesthetics. “We have decided to give our inner communities a facelift with modern drainage systems, street lights, and road surfacing,” he said.

He stressed the importance of preventing the drainage system from becoming a waste dumping site, urging residents to maintain cleanliness and support the project.

The Chairman noted that the area is notably busy, housing both the Methodist Church and the central mosque in Ikorodu, making the drainage project vital for local infrastructure.

The project is expected to be completed within six months.

Council Engineer Mr. Oladapo Oluseye provided details of the construction, noting that one side of the drainage will be 600×600 mm covered, while the other will be 750×750 mm covered.

The total length of the drainage system is 1,686 meters.

The launch was attended by prominent figures, including the Iyalode of Ikorodu, Chief Mrs. Abimbola Shokunbi, Ikorodu Central APC Party Chairman Alh. Waheed Animashaun and Iyaloja of Ikorodu Central, Mrs. Bukola Osho, among others, who praised Chairman Adesina for his commitment to improving infrastructure in the inner communities.

Residents of the affected communities expressed their gratitude for the project, recognizing it as a significant development initiative.

Hon. Omotayo Awolesi, councillor for Ward C, and Hon. Wasiu Shotomiwa, councillor for Ward D, both commended the project and encouraged their constituents to cooperate with the contractors for timely completion.

Hon. Shafari Adeniyi also praised the Chairman’s efforts, underscoring the community’s appreciation for his dedication.

The event was also graced by key council officials, including Vice-Chairman Aarebirin Hon. Dr. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Leader of the House Hon. Adebowale Adebola, Secretary to the Local Government Alhaji Lateef Afinni, Woman Leader Alhaja Rashidat Bello, and other notable dignitaries.
