Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club launched another impactful Waste Bottle Plastic Recycle Bin Evacuation Project at the Oshodi Arts Gallery on the 28th of August 2024.
The initiative, led by the club president, Lion Aminat A. Sanusi and the Clubs service chairperson, Lion Aluko Kayode, aims to foster environmental sustainability while empowering local youth.
The project witnessed active participation from members of the Lions Club, who diligently worked to evacuate waste plastic bottles from designated recycle bins.
This effort aligns with the club’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and waste management in the community.
Lion Aminat A. Sanusi explained the significance of the project, stating, “Our goal is not only to clean up the environment but also to instil a sense of responsibility and entrepreneurship among our youth.”
“By involving them in this recycling initiative, we are providing them with an opportunity to earn money and learn valuable skills.”
The collected plastic waste was handed over to the youth participants, who will sell it to recycling companies.
This approach not only promotes recycling but also serves as an income-generating activity for the young individuals involved, thereby contributing to youth empowerment and economic development in the area.
Lion Aluko Kayode, the project chairperson, emphasized the dual impact of the initiative. “We are tackling environmental challenges while simultaneously addressing youth unemployment.
The funds generated from the sale of these recyclables offer financial benefits to the youth, encouraging them to engage in community service and sustainable practices,” he explained.
The project garnered positive feedback from community members and stakeholders, who praised the Lions Club for its innovative approach to combining environmental action with social empowerment.
