
On Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, the Lagos State Government officially commenced the construction of a 950-meter road on Onishion Street, Lekki, Lagos, marking a significant step toward improving infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
The project, spearheaded under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, is being executed through the Office of Rural Development, demonstrating the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents in Lekki and surrounding areas.
The flag-off ceremony was a well-attended event, drawing a host of notable figures from various sectors of government and the community.
Among the distinguished guests were Hon. Mojeed Fatai Adebola, Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA) and Member representing Ibeju-Lekki Constituency 1, who explained the importance of the project for the constituents he represents.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, stating the governor’s continuous efforts in addressing infrastructural needs across the state.
Joining him was the Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki, Sesan Olowa, who also praised the initiative.
Olowa noted that the construction of the road would not only enhance vehicular movement but also spur economic activities in the area, benefiting both local businesses and residents.
“This road will serve as a critical link, promoting easier access and fostering economic growth in our community,” Olowa stated.
The event was further graced by the presence of several other key dignitaries, including SSA Babatunde Durokaiye, who emphasized the government’s dedication to rural development; HRM Oba Waliu Olasumkanmi and HRM Oba Hakeem Olusegun, who provided traditional blessings and support for the project; and community leaders who have long advocated for improved infrastructure.
Engr. Dankuwo from the Technical Department of the Ministry provided insights into the technical aspects of road construction alongside the contractors, highlighting the advanced engineering techniques and materials that would be employed to ensure durability and sustainability.
“We are committed to delivering a high-quality road that will withstand the test of time and serve the community effectively,” he remarked.
Representing the Lagos State Governor at the event, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser on Rural Development, emphasized the strategic importance of the road project within the broader context of the state’s rural development agenda.
He highlighted that the construction of Onishion Street is part of a series of initiatives aimed at boosting infrastructure, enhancing mobility, and improving the living standards of residents across Lagos State.
“The government of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is steadfast in its resolve to develop every corner of Lagos, ensuring that all residents, regardless of their location, have access to quality infrastructure. This project is a reflection of that commitment,” Agbaje concluded.
The 950-meter road construction project on Onishion Street is expected to be completed within a stipulated timeframe, with ongoing monitoring and support from various governmental bodies and community stakeholders.
