The Lagos State Government, through its Office of Rural Development, distributed four high-powered transformers across Ikorodu Division on September 11, 2024.
This action is part of an ongoing rural electrification initiative aimed at providing stable electricity to underserved communities.
The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, highlights the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in rural Lagos, according to Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development.
Dr. Agbaje emphasized that this electrification drive is crucial in bridging the gap between urban and rural areas, ensuring that all communities benefit from improved public utilities.
The newly distributed transformers will serve Valley View Estate in Olu-Odo, Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, Oguntade-Oloja community in Odogunyan, as well as two other communities in Erikorodo, Ikorodu North LCDA, and Imota LCDA. These transformers are expected to enhance power supply, boost economic activities, and improve the quality of life for residents.
Dr. Agbaje also revealed that this distribution is part of a broader effort, following the previous allocation of 10 transformers to rural areas across the state.
Some of the previously benefiting communities include Oda Ilogbo Eremi in Olorunda LG, Gengenla Accord in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, Lasu Ojo campus in Ojo LG, AMA CDA in Ijede LCDA, and Agbede Omolaiye in Ikorodu West LCDA.
Local leaders and Community Development Association (CDA) executives expressed gratitude for the government’s intervention, applauding the administration’s dedication to enhancing rural electrification.
“This project is expected to have a lasting impact, fostering economic growth and encouraging further development in these regions,” Dr Agbaje added
