EMPOWERMENT: IKORODU PECULIAR LIONS CLUB EQUIPS YOUTH THROUGH BARBING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM ~ INN Nigeria ☆

In a remarkable display of commitment to youth development, Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club has successfully executed its 3rd project, tagged “Youth Empowerment.”

The initiative is part of the club’s ongoing efforts to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for young individuals in the Ikorodu community.

Two beneficiaries of this empowerment program, Michael Cambridge and Akorede Joseph, have embarked on an apprenticeship at Atorise Barbing Salon, located at the Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Sabo Ikorodu Plaza.

The training, under the expert guidance of Mr. Joseph Gabriel, started two to three weeks ago and has already yielded positive results.

During a visit to the salon, it was observed that both Michael and Akorede had not only embraced the barbing profession but were actively honing their skills.

Their level of engagement and determination impressed the club representatives, showcasing the program’s success.

In fulfillment of a promise made at the inception of the apprenticeship, the Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club provided each apprentice with rechargeable barbing machines, popularly known as clippers.

This donation serves as a significant tool for their trade, positioning them for immediate entry into the workforce upon completion of their training.

Speaking during the club’s supervision, the club service chairperson, Lion Kayode Aluko, expressed pride in the progress made by the two young men and reiterated the Lions Club’s commitment to youth empowerment.

“We believe that empowering the youth with practical skills is one of the most effective ways to combat unemployment and foster self-reliance in our community,” he said.

Mr. Joseph Gabriel, the head tutor at Atorise Barbing Salon, also shared his delight in mentoring the young apprentices.

He praised their dedication and fast learning, stating that both Michael and Akorede have shown great potential in mastering the art of barbering.

The project reflects Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club’s ongoing mission to uplift the lives of the underprivileged through targeted interventions in skills acquisition and employment generation.

“This initiative is yet another testament to the club’s unwavering dedication to empowering the next generation.”

“As the two apprentices continue their journey, the club remains hopeful that they will become successful barbers and contribute to the local economy, thus fulfilling the ultimate goal of the project: self-sufficiency and long-term empowerment” Lion Aluko asserted.
