SUPPORT IN TIMES OF NEED: REP. BABAJIMI BENSON DISTRIBUTES SEPTEMBER ‘APO AANU ’ WELFARE PACKAGES TO IKORODU RESIDENTS ~ INN Nigeria ☆


Ikorodu, September 14, 2024 – Rep. Babajimi Benson, MHR, further demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of the Ikorodu Division communities by distributing the latest edition of the “Apo Aanu” welfare packages.

Held at his Constituency Office along Igbogbo road in Ikorodu, the initiative focused on alleviating the economic burdens of residents by providing essential food items to families in need.

The September edition saw participation from residents across Ikorodu Local Government Area and its various Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), including Ikorodu North, Ikorodu West, Imota, Ijede, and Igbogbo/Baiyeku.

Among the numerous beneficiaries were individuals with disabilities, including the deaf, mute, and dwarfed, as well as representatives from religious organizations, youth groups, and artisans across the region.


The “Apo Aanu” initiative, which translates to “Bag of Mercy,” has become a cornerstone of community support in Ikorodu division, distributing essential food items like rice, beans, and other staples to alleviate hunger and provide relief in times of economic hardship.

With each distribution, the program continues to uplift the lives of residents, ensuring that vulnerable groups within Ikorodu Division are supported.

Mrs. Justina Sara, the Women Leader of Lagos East Senatorial District from the South-South region, spoke with Ikorodu News Network (INN) at the event.

She praised Rep. Benson for his inclusive approach, noting his ability to unify people from different ethnic backgrounds in the constituency.

Mrs. Sara commended Rep. Benson’s leadership, particularly his non-tribalistic approach, which she believes has significantly contributed to Ikorodu’s rapid development.

“Rep. Benson is a man that brings every tribe together,” she remarked, conoting the importance of unity in a multicultural community like Ikorodu.

She went on to detail several key projects initiated by the lawmaker, including road construction, installation of street lights, and solar-powered energy solutions that have improved the overall infrastructure of the region. These developments have enhanced safety, boosted local businesses, and made transportation more accessible. “These are not just small projects,” she said, pointing out their long-term benefits to the community.

Mrs. Sara also used her platform to challenge other political leaders to follow Rep. Benson’s example, urging them to initiate similar programs that would foster sustainable development in their constituencies. She stressed that consistent delivery of impactful projects is critical for the overall growth of Lagos State.

Engineer Chief Patrick Osara, a prominent resident and beneficiary from Ikorodu North LCDA, spoke highly of the initiative’s impact. He described the “Apo Aanu” program as “not just a program, but a blessing” for people of Ikorodu.

Chief Osara lauded Rep. Benson for his commitment to the region, particularly his focus on providing essential food supplies to underserved households.

He emphasized the significance of community support for leaders like Rep. Benson, calling on residents to rally behind the lawmaker as he continues to champion the needs of the constituency.

“We need to support him,” Chief Osara said, acknowledging the influence Rep. Benson’s initiatives have had on the overall well-being of the division.

The “Apo Aanu” initiative has become an indispensable resource for the residents of Ikorodu. With each edition, the program continues to grow, reaching more beneficiaries and addressing critical issues of food insecurity.
