
On Sunday, September 15, 2024, the family of Late Chief Mukadam Robiu Oloruntele Olukoya marked the 25th anniversary of his passing with the official unveiling of the Tele Olukoya Foundation.
The event, which began with a special Islamic prayer session at the family compound and concluded with a lavish reception, was held in honour of the late community leader, philanthropist, and statesman.
It drew a gathering of special guests and well-wishers, all present to commemorate his enduring legacy.
Mr. Idris Oloruntele Olukoya, son of the late Chief Mukadam Robiu Oloruntele Olukoya, addressed attendees during the event, highlighting the significance of the newly launched foundation.
According to Mr. Idris, the Tele Olukoya Foundation, is dedicated to continuing his father’s legacy of generosity and community service. “In his lifetime, my father was a giver like no other, touching countless lives around him,” he shared.
The foundation, he explained, will embark on meticulously planned charitable projects that will be carried out annually, especially during and after Ramadan.
Its primary mission will focus on uplifting the lives of the downtrodden and those with special needs in the community, giving hope and providing opportunities to the less privileged.
Mr. Idris urged well-meaning individuals to support the foundation’s mission by contributing helpful items or resources.
“We encourage everyone to join this noble cause of blessing our society. Together, we can keep my father’s spirit of kindness alive,” he concluded.
Brief Biography of Late Chief Mukadam Robiu Oloruntele Olukoya:
Born on July 7, 1938, in Ibonwon, Eredo LCDA, Epe Division, Lagos State, Alhaji Chief Mukadam Robiu Oloruntele Olukoya hailed from the prestigious Lebe lineage of the Telade Ruling House.
After completing his education at Epe Grammar School in 1961, he became an influential figure in Nigerian politics, aligning himself with political parties such as the UPN, DPN, and AD.
Chief Olukoya’s public service was vast, including roles as National President of the United Muslim Council of Nigeria (UMC), Special Adviser to Late Alhaji Lateef Jakande during his time as Lagos State Governor, and as a delegate at the 1994 National Constitutional Conference (CONFAB ’94).
His tenure as Chairman of the Lagos State Water Corporation and National Treasurer of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) further solidified his legacy.
In addition to his political career, Chief Olukoya was a successful businessman, particularly in the cocoa industry. He founded Okemagba High School and Tele Olukoya Sawmill in Eredo, contributing significantly to the educational and economic development of the region.
A devout Muslim, he sponsored numerous pilgrimages to Mecca, and his philanthropic efforts reached far beyond his immediate community.
Chief Olukoya’s social life was equally impressive, with memberships in clubs such as Eko Club, Island Club, and Ikoyi Club. He was also a board member at the University of Lagos during the tenure of Professor Jelili Omotola.
Renowned for his strong friendships with national figures like MKO Abiola, Sani Abacha, and Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Olukoya was a man of vision, leadership, and compassion. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the newly established Tele Olukoya Foundation.
