Rotimi Ogunleye, former Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, as well as Commerce and Industry, served as the Special Guest at a significant event held at Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat Hall on September 17th 2024.
The occasion marked the presentation of autocads to 100 Senior Secondary School (SSS) students sponsored by the Ikorodu Local Government for the upcoming General Certificate Examination (GCE).
Speaking to beneficiaries, Ogunleye seized the moment to encourage the students to fully embrace the opportunity provided by the local government.
He emphasized the importance of building a strong educational foundation, which he described as essential for achieving a bright and prosperous future.
“This is a critical stage in your lives,” Ogunleye remarked, “and it is up to you to make the most of it by committing yourselves to your studies and seizing this chance to succeed.”
Beyond addressing the students, Ogunleye also directed an important message to parents, urging them to take an active role in guiding and mentoring their children.
He stressed that parental involvement is key to ensuring that the aims of the local government in financing these students are realized.
“Parents must monitor and mentor their children, providing them with the necessary support and guidance to achieve their potential,” he advised.
Lauding the initiative as a commendable step toward youth empowerment, Ogunleye expressed his support for programs designed to uplift the community, particularly its younger members.
“I strongly support this kind of gesture to pull the people up, especially the youth. No one should be left behind,” he stated.
He also took the opportunity to applaud the Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, for implementing such a valuable program.
Ogunleye noted that at a time when many families are struggling to provide for their children’s education, the support offered by the local government is a lifeline for the students.
“Kudos to the Ikorodu Local Government Chairman for this laudable initiative,” he said, emphasizing the need for more such programs in the future.
The GCE sponsorship initiative is part of the broader efforts of the Ikorodu Local Government to improve educational outcomes and empower young residents, positioning them for success in their academic and professional pursuits.
