The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina has once again reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the educational landscape of the area.
In a program held on the 17th of September 2024 at the council Secretariat hall, Hon. Adesina presented essential instructional materials—such as whiteboards, markers, and cleaners—to all 16 primary schools within the local government.
This initiative aims to improve teaching quality and learning conditions in primary schools.
In addition, Hon. Adesina distributed photocards and exam timetables to 100 beneficiaries of the 2024 edition of the free General Certificate of Education (GCE) form initiative, a key educational program designed to support students from underprivileged backgrounds.
Addressing the benefitting students and their parents, Hon. Adesina highlighted the significance of the GCE initiative: “The GCE forms have been fully paid for by the local government, allowing our students to sit for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)”.
“This forms a strong foundation for their academic and professional futures. The distribution of marker boards to schools will further enhance teaching effectiveness, contributing to a more conducive learning environment.”
The Chairman noted that education has always been a core priority of his administration.
“We are steadfast in our commitment to the growth and success of our children. Education remains at the forefront of our agenda, and we will continue to invest in their future.”
Hon. Adesina also urged the students to maximize the opportunities presented to them. “I encourage the beneficiaries to take this seriously, strive for academic excellence, and open the door to future prospects”.
“We have plans for additional educational support, such as free JAMB forms, to help them continue their educational journeys.”
The Head of the Education Department in Ikorodu, Mr. Adedeji Owolabi commended the Chairman for his continued support, emphasizing that these efforts would greatly enhance the quality of education in the local government area.
He encouraged the students to seize the opportunity to make themselves and their community proud.
Gratitude was expressed by beneficiaries, including head teachers and students.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss Marian Onifade thanked Hon. Adesina for making the exams accessible to many students and vowed that the beneficiaries would work diligently to achieve excellent results in the exams as a show of appreciation for the council’s support.
Alhaji Shamsideen Adewale Longe, who was responsible for overseeing the registration process, explained that the local government had completed the entire GCE registration online.
He emphasized that the students had already been fully registered and would be receiving photocards that would allow them access to their exam centers without issue plus the official examination timetable.
“The exam centres include Ikorodu Junior Grammar School, Oriwu College, Yewa Grammar School, Wilford Comprehensive College, Success Bell College, and Uncle Bayus School, with the exams set to commence in October”.
“Through these significant educational initiatives, Hon. Wasiu Adesina continues to leave an indelible mark on Ikorodu’s educational development, solidifying his reputation as a leader dedicated to the future success of the community’s youth, ” AlhajiShamsideen added.
