On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina led a comprehensive inspection tour of several critical road and drainage projects across various communities in the local government area.
This inspection reflects the Chairman’s ongoing commitment to addressing infrastructural challenges and ensuring that development projects are executed effectively to meet the needs of the residents.
The first stop of the inspection was the Sanni Arowolo Street construction project, which has reached 70 percent completion.
Accompanied by key council officials, including the council engineer, Mr. Oladapo Oluseye, and Secretary to the Local Government, Alhaji Lateef Afini, Hon. Adesina took a detailed look at the progress made.
He commended the quality of work so far, particularly the drainage system, which is essential to the durability of the road.
The chairman emphasized that completing the drainage system along Otayombo Street is a critical step in the overall project, as it will facilitate proper water management and prevent future flooding.
This drainage work will also help link the Sanni Arowolo Street to Dada Street, another major road that the Chairman promised to construct.
Once completed, this connection will significantly improve vehicular access and ease traffic congestion, boosting the mobility and economic prospects of the community.
Following the inspection at Sanni Arowolo, the council team moved to assess the ongoing work at the 1,686-meter Itundegun/Ajina dual-sided drainage and road construction project.
During this site visit, Hon. Adesina expressed urgency in ensuring the contractors speed up their efforts without compromising quality.
He highlighted that these infrastructural upgrades are critical to reducing traffic bottlenecks and enhancing economic activity in the area, as they will enable better access for both residents and businesses.
The Chairman also took time to address local business owners and traders who have been affected by the construction activities.
He urged them not to obstruct the work by setting up businesses on the unfinished drainage system and asked for patience, noting that the completion of the project would bring long-term benefits to the community by preventing flooding and improving accessibility.
Next, the inspection team visited Tayo Ajayi Close, Sabo Road, where another significant 320-meter dual-sided drainage and road project is ongoing.
As the Chairman walked through the construction site, he stated the importance of this project in boosting the local economy by enhancing the connectivity between Ikorodu Local Government and Ikorodu North LCDA.
The road is also situated near key landmarks, including the Ikorodu cemetery, and will play a pivotal role in facilitating movement within the community.
Hon. Adesina took the opportunity to inspect the Solomade/Adekayaoja road, which has seen substantial progress since its construction was flagged off.
He praised the contractors for their efficient work, particularly on the drainage system, which he described as a critical component for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the road.
According to the Chairman, this drainage system will significantly mitigate the impact of heavy rains and prevent flooding in the area, a recurring issue during the wet season.
In his remarks during the inspection tour, Hon. Wasiu Adesina stressed the importance of these infrastructure projects in fostering economic development and improving the overall quality of life for residents.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring the timely completion of the projects and maintaining the highest construction standards.
“These projects are not just about building roads and drainage systems; they are about laying the foundation for future growth and providing our people with the infrastructure they need to thrive,” he said.
The Chairman also expressed appreciation to the council staff and contractors for their hard work and urged them to remain focused on delivering high-quality projects that will serve the community for years to come.
The inspection concluded with the Chairman reiterating his administration’s commitment to continuous infrastructural development in Ikorodu Local Government, with the goal of making the area a model for efficient governance and community welfare.
“Residents can expect to see further improvements as the projects near completion, with the local government committed to driving positive change through enhanced public works,” Adesina added.
