The Lagos State Government has unveiled its plans to process 3,000 cows daily at a newly established logistics hub in the Imota area.
This ambitious project is part of a wider strategy to streamline the state’s livestock management and bolster food security.
The announcement was made by Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, during a special Channels Television program titled Nigeria’s Challenging Economy: Strategies for Recovery, commemorating Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.
He highlighted the importance of this initiative in ensuring efficient tracking of livestock entering Lagos.
Hamzat noted, “We are building a logistics hub in Imota, the biggest of its kind in this region. This will help us track livestock coming into Lagos. With this, Lagos will be able to slaughter about 3,000 cows daily.”
This initiative is expected to revolutionize the state’s food supply chain, improving the safety and quality of meat products.
The deputy governor emphasized that the hub will not only help track the origin of livestock but will also ensure stringent veterinary checks. In cases where issues are detected, measures will be taken to prevent contaminated meat from reaching the public.
Additionally, the deputy governor revealed the state’s plans to boost food security by stocking grains capable of sustaining Lagosians for at least nine months.
These efforts are aimed at shielding the state from future disruptions in food supply.
The new livestock hub aligns with Lagos’ broader agricultural development agenda, positioning the state as a leader in food logistics and security in Nigeria.
