The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, has extensive its rural electrification project to boost power supply in several underserved communities.
This initiative, which forms part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s effort to deliver improved infrastructure and governance to rural areas, saw the presentation of transformers to various communities on September 3, 2024.
The communities of Ojuagbe and Olowu, both in Ibeju-Lekki LCDA, were the first beneficiaries of the project, followed closely by Ogombo Community in Eti-Osa LCDA and Ogo Oluwa Community in Ijalemo, Ijegun.
The installation of the transformers is expected to enhance electricity supply in these areas, addressing long-standing issues of power shortages and unreliable electrical infrastructure.
The project, which commenced in the second quarter of 2024, is a key component of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s strategy to improve the standard of living for residents in all parts of Lagos State.
Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative, emphasizing its goal to bridge the gap in infrastructure between urban and rural communities.
“This rural electrification initiative is designed to upgrade the power supply and ensure equitable access to electricity for all communities in Lagos, regardless of their location. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to inclusive development,” Dr. Agbaje said.
Looking ahead, it was revealed that communities in Badagry will be the next to benefit, with their transformers scheduled for delivery in the second week of September.
The initiative has been met with widespread appreciation from community leaders, CDA heads, and traditional rulers, who have commended the governor for his impactful governance.

They also expressed gratitude to the Office of Rural Development for its role in facilitating the initiative, which is poised to uplift the socio-economic prospects of rural residents.
