The Lagos State House of Assembly’s Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development conducted an official visit to assess the progress in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on the 16th of October 2024.

Led by Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon of Kosofe Constituency 1, the committee was welcomed with warmth and hospitality by the council, headed by the Executive Chairman, Builder Adeola Adebisi Banjo.

The oversight visit was aimed at evaluating the council’s efforts in grassroots governance and development.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Okanlawon praised the vibrant atmosphere in Ikorodu North LCDA and commended Builder Banjo for fostering a progressive environment.

Builder Banjọ presented a detailed overview of his administration’s accomplishments since his re-election in 2021, impressing the committee with a range of transformative projects.

Among the standout achievements was the construction of a state-of-the-art facility for the Commissioner of Police Strike Team (Anti-Kidnapping/Anti-Cultism) at Araro Adamo, the first of its kind outside Ikeja.

This facility has enhanced security not only in Ikorodu but also in neighbouring regions like Epe and Badagry.

Infrastructure development was another highlight, with the completion of roads in the low-cost housing estate, including A-Line and AM Street, fitted with streetlights and proper drainage.

The construction of the ultramodern Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Complex, housing the Legislative Chamber, Customary Court, and multipurpose hall, further underscored the council’s commitment to structural growth.

Notable projects in education and healthcare included the renovation of classrooms at Africa Bethel Primary School, Maya, the establishment of the first junior secondary school in Gbaga Town, and the refurbishment of the Primary Health Centre at Olorunda.

Additionally, the administration’s focus on youth and women empowerment was reflected in vocational training for over 500 participants, with select artisans showcasing their products at the Ikorodu Commodities Expo 2024.

Following the presentation, Hon. Okanlawon commended Builder Banjọ for his visionary leadership, particularly the new legislative complex and the Joint Task Force’s (JTF) excellent security performance.

However, he urged the council to prioritize ICT development, offer more comprehensive health initiatives, and provide startup capital for empowerment program beneficiaries.

In his closing remarks, Builder Banjọ expressed his gratitude for the committee’s thorough assessment and committed to addressing the areas of improvement.

The visit concluded with the committee reaffirming their confidence in the administration’s efforts to drive sustainable development in Ikorodu North LCDA.
