
On October 20, 2024, the Ikorodu Metropolitan Lions Club marked a significant milestone with the installation of its 21st Lion President, Lion Sunday Oguntimehin NLCF, in a grand ceremony at the prestigious O’Clean Event Center in Ikorodu Local Government.
The event, which brought together community leaders and distinguished guests, set the tone for an ambitious Lions year focused on community welfare and the promotion of good governance.
The ceremony highlighted the club’s commitment to serving the less privileged, with a focus on health, education, and environmental sustainability in line with Lions Club International’s Global Service Framework.
The club’s new leadership team expressed its determination to expand its reach through impactful community projects.
Notable figures in attendance included Otunba Lanre K. Kuye, Director of Information at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH); Mr. Shomiyekan Okikiola; and Lion Folashade Shotomide PJMF, NLCF, District Governor for the 2024/2025 Lions year.
Members of the Ilupeju Grammar School Old Students Association were also present, lending their support to the club’s mission of community service.
Lion Ahmed Ajayi, MJF, NLCF, former president, Chairman of the Investiture Planning Committee, and Zone A Chairperson, emphasized the Lions Club’s significant contributions to Ikorodu and beyond.
He highlighted the club’s dedication to supporting vulnerable groups and its commitment to fostering community development through various impactful initiatives.
Ajayi noted that the Lions Club’s work has been instrumental in improving the lives of many, particularly those in need. The club’s projects, ranging from health care to education and environmental sustainability, have made a tangible difference in the community.
“The successes we have recorded over the years would not have been possible without the commitment and selfless contributions of our members,” Ajayi remarked. He acknowledged that the club’s achievements are a collective effort, driven by the dedication of its members.
Ajayi expressed heartfelt gratitude to all members for their continued dedication to service, stating, “Together, we can achieve even more.” He encouraged everyone to maintain the spirit of unity and commitment as the club looks ahead to greater accomplishments.
Outgoing President Lion Shakirat Adefugbai, NLCF, delivered a heartfelt speech, thanking God for His guidance throughout her tenure as the club’s 20th president.
She also expressed appreciation to the club members and her family for their unwavering support during her tenure.
Under her leadership, Ikorodu Metro Lions Club experienced membership growth and successfully launched projects such as the “Feed the Hungry” program, the “Back to School” initiative, and medical supply donations.
The club also earned several prestigious awards, including second place in the District Peace Poster competition and recognition as the second-best club in the district.
Newly installed President Lion Sunday Oguntimehin NLCF emphasized the global impact of Lions Club International in addressing humanitarian needs.
He outlined his administration’s key focus areas: vision care, diabetes prevention, hunger relief, pediatric cancer support, environmental protection, youth empowerment, and disaster relief.
In a bold move, Lion Oguntimehin announced plans to establish a skills acquisition centre in Ikorodu aimed at empowering the community with essential skills.
He called on members and well-wishers to support this initiative and other projects, noting, “Through the Lions Club platform, you are giving back to the community.”
He also encouraged club members to uphold the legacy of service, quoting Lions Club International founder Melvin Jones: “You can’t get very far until you start doing something.”
Guest speaker Otunba Lanre Kuye commended the Lions Club for its dedication to philanthropy. He acknowledged the club’s consistent efforts to uplift the community through various service initiatives, noting the significant impact these programs have had on improving lives.
Kuye stated the importance of maintaining this commitment to service, especially in addressing the needs of the less privileged.
He emphasized that the club’s ongoing projects in areas such as health, education, and environmental sustainability continue to make a positive difference in Ikorodu and beyond.
He further urged the newly installed leadership to build on the club’s legacy, encouraging them to uphold the core values of service and community improvement.
Kuye called on the leaders to lead by example and inspire others to join in the mission of creating a better, more empowered society.
Mr. Somiyewo Okikiola, representing the Chairman of the day, Chief Emilio Shorinola Cardozo, echoed similar sentiments during his address. He praised the Lions Club for its dedication to service and philanthropy.
Okikiola also commended the club’s leadership for its positive impact on the community, highlighting their ongoing efforts to improve the lives of those in need.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of energy and purpose, as Ikorodu Metro Lions Club, backed by strong leadership and community support, embarks on another year of service to humanity.
Ikorodu Metropolitan Lions Club, situated in District 404 A3, is an active participant within Region 7 and Zone 7A. Officially chartered on June 28, 2004, the club was sponsored by the Ilupeju Lions Club. PGD Kayode Oshinuga PMJF, NLCF, and the late Lion Lanre Aminu played pivotal roles in providing early guidance, establishing a strong foundation for the club’s development.
At the time of its chartering, Lion Dame Princess Adetope Tychus served as the charter governor, while Lion Kolapo Raheem NLCF was appointed as the club’s inaugural president. Together, they navigated the club through its early years, promoting community service and leadership initiatives.
Meetings are held at The Arena, located at the first gate of LASUSTECH in Ikorodu. Members convene on the third Sunday of each month, reaffirming their dedication to community service and the principles of Lionism.
