BADAGRY COMMUNITIES REJOICE AS LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT DISTRIBUTES TRANSFORMERS, EXPANDS RURAL ELECTRIFICATION INITIATIVE ~ INN Nigeria ☆

On the 23rd of October 2024, residents of various communities in the Badagry area of Lagos State celebrated as the Lagos State Government, under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, distributed transformers as part of its ongoing rural electrification project.

This initiative, aimed at expanding access to electricity in underserved areas, has brought much-needed relief to several communities that have been living in darkness for years.

The New Layout Community Development Association (CDA) in Zunvewhezeme, Badagry, was one of the beneficiaries.

According to Alhaji Wasiu Salami, Chairman of the CDA, the community has been without electricity since 2012. The lack of power has severely impacted their daily lives, businesses, and overall development.

The arrival of the new transformer marks a turning point for the residents, who have waited over a decade for this vital infrastructure.

In Tori Lovi CDA, a large crowd gathered to witness the handover of their transformer.

Alhaji Babatunde Joseph, the Baale of the community, expressed his profound gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu on behalf of the CDA.

He revealed that the community had been requesting a transformer for more than two years, with sections of the area plunged into total darkness.

He acknowledged the efforts of the administration in finally addressing their plight.

Similarly, Ajagbe CDA in Badagry, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Sikiru Musa Kolawole, commended the Lagos State Government for remembering their community after over three years of waiting.

He noted that the provision of the transformer was a significant step toward improving the quality of life for the residents.

The communities also expressed their appreciation for Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development.

They acknowledged his instrumental role in facilitating the provision of transformers to the long-neglected areas.

His involvement, they said, ensured that their voices were finally heard and their needs addressed.

According to Dr Agbaje, the rural electrification initiative is part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s broader plan to ensure that all parts of Lagos State, including remote areas, have access to reliable electricity.

“This project not only enhances the livelihoods of the residents but also boosts economic activities, which have been hampered by years of power shortages.”

“With this development, the communities of Badagry can now look forward to a brighter future, thanks to the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving rural infrastructure,” Dr Agbaje added.
