NEW HAVEN CDA IN IGBOGBO-BAIYEKU LCDA BENEFITS FROM LAGOS STATE’S RURAL ELECTRIFICATION INITIATIVE ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The New Haven Community Development Association (CDA) in the Selewu area of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has become the latest beneficiary of the ongoing rural electrification initiative championed by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The initiative, which is facilitated through the Lagos State Office of Rural Development, provided the community with 15 solar-powered streetlights on the 23rd of October 2024, marking a significant step toward enhancing safety and boosting local economic activities.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the Vice-Chairman of the New Haven CDA, Mr. Olatunbosun Oluwabunmi expressed profound gratitude to the governor for the supportive gesture.

He highlighted the positive impact the streetlights are expected to have on the community, explaining that they will not only brighten the area but also reduce criminal activities by deterring hoodlums, making the neighborhood safer for residents and visitors alike.

“This development is a step in the right direction for our community,” Mr. Oluwabunmi remarked.

“We believe the streetlights will encourage extended economic activities after dark and also help mitigate the threats posed by criminal elements in the area.”

The initiative, which aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s goal to bridge the infrastructure gap between urban and rural areas, has been widely praised by community stakeholders.

It is seen as part of the broader efforts by the state government to promote rural development and ensure equal access to modern amenities across all regions of Lagos State.

Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, had earlier emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that more rural areas benefit from electrification projects.

According to him, the Sanwo-Olu-led administration is focused on promoting sustainable development in rural communities, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

“With the installation of these solar-powered streetlights, the New Haven CDA now joins a growing list of communities in Lagos State that are witnessing the positive effects of the government’s rural electrification program” Dr Agbaje asserted.

Other stakeholders who joined the Vice-Chairman to receive the solar-powered streetlights included Prince Adeola Oladeselu, Mr. Gbenga Adeyemi, Mrs. Chika Nwobodo, Mr. Udezie Daniel, and Mrs. Joy Lucia Oziaku, the 2nd Vice Chairlady of the CDA.
