Earlier in the day, Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon fulfilled his duties as One-Day Governor at Alausa, where he was welcomed by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady, Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and other Lagos State education officials.

The One-Day Governor was accompanied by the One-Day Deputy Governor, Master Oki Sewanu, a student of Ansar-Ud-Deen Senior Grammar School, Badagry, and the One-Day Secretary to the State Government, Miss Saheed Alimot-Odere, a student of Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School, Coker Aguda.

Master Abdulrahmon, an exemplary student from Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu, earned the honour through his outstanding performance in the 20th edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee competition.

During his address, Hon. Wasiu Adesina expressed immense pride in Abdulrahmon’s achievement, describing it as a testament to the value of perseverance and the limitless potential within Lagos State’s public school system.

He attributed this success to the Spelling Bee initiative, a pioneering program founded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the New Era Foundation.

“This platform has been instrumental in uncovering the talents of public school students and has provided them with unique opportunities to excel, regardless of socio-economic backgrounds,” he noted.

Hon. Adesina praised the Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for its commitment to prioritizing education.

He highlighted the state’s initiatives to provide equal opportunities for students across all backgrounds, stating, “The government’s investments in youth intellectual and social development reaffirm that they are the future leaders of our state and nation.”

The Chairman extended his appreciation to Abdulrahmon’s family, teachers, and the Spelling Bee organizers for their contributions in nurturing the young leader.

He assured that Ikorodu Local Government remains dedicated to fostering educational excellence and personal growth, which he believes are the foundations of a progressive society.

In a speech that resonated with the assembled students, Hon. Adesina encouraged them to draw inspiration from Abdulrahmon’s accomplishment.

“Success does not discriminate based on where you come from or what school you attend—it rewards hard work, focus, and determination. Abdulrahmon’s story should inspire you all to dream big and work towards achieving your goals,” he emphasized.

Hon. Wasiu Adesina concluded by congratulating Abdulrahmon on his significant achievement, affirming that Ikorodu takes pride in his accomplishments and looks forward to witnessing his future contributions to society.

Mrs. Anike Adekanye, Permanent Secretary of Education District II, in her remarks, lauded the district’s educators and students for their dedication, which she said has brought global recognition to the district.

She urged parents to support teachers, reinforcing the role of collaborative efforts in shaping successful students.

“When parents work with teachers, they empower students to excel academically,” she added, encouraging parents to consider public schools, which continue to demonstrate exceptional results.
