The Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club, led by its president, Lion Sanusi Aminat Anike, conducted a vision project in the Isiu community of Ikorodu North LCDA on the 30th of October 2024.
The event, held at the Isiu Town Hall, offered residents a range of free eye care services, including eye screenings, blood pressure checks, distribution of eyeglasses, and provision of medications.
The vision project, themed “Vision Care for the Community,” saw an enthusiastic response from Isiu residents eager to receive care.
According to Lion Aminat Anike, the club’s initiative aims to address basic healthcare needs in underserved communities.
“It gives us joy to see the turnout of residents in Isiu who came to benefit from this program,” she said.
“We’re also pleased that local authorities have shown interest and expressed their support for our future visits to this community.”
In addition to eye screenings, which identified cases needing further medical attention, participants with complex issues were given referrals for surgery.
This outreach demonstrates the club’s commitment to enhancing health accessibility for vulnerable populations.
The Isiu community youth chairman, Comrade Raji Wasiu Olorunkemi, attended on behalf of the Eweye of Isiu, His Royal Majesty Oba Olukayode David Raji.
In his remarks, he shared the King’s commendation to the Lions Club for their impactful intervention in the community.
“What the club has done today,” Comrade Wasiu stated, “is provide medical services that would have cost residents up to fifty thousand naira each if they had sought treatment at a hospital.”
His Royal Majesty, Oba Olukayode Raji, also expressed gratitude to his community members for their active participation, which contributed to the program’s success.
“We look forward to more programs like this in our community,” he said, encouraging the Lions Club to return with future health initiatives.
Beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude to the club, sharing their satisfaction with the Lions’ selfless contributions to the community.
Many residents noted that the free services provided by the club addressed a significant gap in access to healthcare, especially for those who would otherwise struggle to afford such care.
The Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club continues to uphold its mission of serving underserved communities, bridging healthcare gaps, and fostering a spirit of unity and compassion through its impactful outreach programs.
The project marked another successful outreach by the Club as it continues to support healthcare access and improve the quality of life within Ikorodu communities.
