In a progressive effort to enhance public safety and promote sustainable development, the Lagos State government has installed solar-powered streetlights in Arowojobe Estate, Mende, Maryland, Lagos.

This installation, completed on November 4, 2024, is part of a wide-reaching rural electrification initiative led by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu through the Office of Rural Development.

These solar streetlights provide reliable, eco-friendly lighting, enhancing security and enabling nighttime activities within the estate.

This project reflects Lagos State’s commitment to expanding access to dependable power solutions, especially in underserved areas.

Residents of Arowojobe Estate have praised the project, highlighting improvements in safety and convenience at night.

“Under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, we are committed to ensuring that Lagosians across all regions benefit from this electrification initiative,” he affirmed, detailing the government’s commitment to ongoing rural infrastructure development.

In addition to solar streetlights, the state’s rural electrification efforts include the installation of high-capacity transformers to stabilize and extend the power supply to more communities.

Dr. Agbaje noted that several areas in Lagos are slated for transformer installations under this program, including: Ojomo CDA, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA – 300KVA transformer, 11KV rating; Elenuwa CDA, Igbogbo Bayeku – 300KVA transformer, 33KV rating; Harmony CDA, Ikorodu LGA – 300KVA transformer; Lugbusi Descendant CDA, Ikorodu LGA – 300KVA transformer, 33KV rating; Amazing Estate CDA, Ijede, Ikorodu LGA – 300KVA transformer, 11KV rating; Ilogbo-Eremi Kingdom CDA, Badagry LGA – 300KVA transformer, 33KV rating.

Dr. Agbaje also highlighted the sustainability aspect of these projects, noting that they not only improve living conditions but also support Lagos State’s green agenda by incorporating renewable energy sources.

“The Office of Rural Development will oversee the continuation and expansion of this project to other communities, ensuring timely delivery and operational efficiency,” he stated.

“By implementing solar-powered streetlights and high-capacity transformers, Lagos State is actively working to close infrastructure gaps, enhance security, and pave the way for a sustainable future.”
