
In anticipation of the 2024 Lagos State Community Day celebration, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, convened a key preparatory meeting on November 6, 2024, with the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council.
The meeting, held in the conference room of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Office of Rural Development in Alausa, focused on coordinating plans for the upcoming celebration and promoting sustainable maintenance of government projects across communities.
Dr. Agbaje emphasized the importance of fostering strong partnerships between the state government and community leaders to ensure successful event planning and address long-term project upkeep in various neighborhoods.
The gathering underscored the administration’s commitment to enhancing local development and improving residents’ quality of life through grassroots collaboration.
The meeting included participation from Alhaji Azeez Amuzat, Chairman of the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council, alongside senior officials from the Ministry.
Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Office of Rural Development, was also in attendance, contributing insights on ways to support community leaders in their roles.
In addition to planning for Community Day, discussions focused on strategies for preserving and maintaining existing government projects within local communities.
Dr. Agbaje further highlighted the need for community members to take ownership of public assets, ensuring they remain functional and beneficial for all residents.
The meeting set a collaborative tone for the forthcoming Community Day celebrations and reinforced the state’s commitment to empowering communities through active participation and sustainable development efforts.
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, actively supports the Annual Community Day celebration as a platform to recognize the contributions of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in promoting his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda.
This event showcases the numerous self-help projects initiated by CDAs across the state, underscoring their dedication to shaping Lagos into a modern, 21st-century economy.
