Ikorodu North, Lagos — To mark World Diabetes Day, the Prince Adedoyin Jokotex Movement (PAJ Movement), in partnership with the Ikorodu Diamond Lions Club, organized a free medical screening and medication outreach for residents of Ikorodu North LCDA on November 15, 2024, at Jokotex Hotel, Itamope.
The program reached over 50 community members, providing vital health services and support.
Aimed at increasing awareness of diabetes, hypertension, and vision health, the initiative promoted early detection and management.
Participants had the opportunity to “know their numbers” by checking vital signs such as blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
The outreach included comprehensive health screenings by qualified medical professionals, covering diabetes, hypertension, and vision impairments.
Attendees received personalized consultations, free medications, and lifestyle guidance to support their well-being.
A notable feature was the vision screening, which addressed eye health issues and provided free reading glasses for those in need, enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Lion Dr. Adedoyin Ogunbiyi, founder of the PAJ Movement, expressed gratitude to the Ikorodu Diamond Lions Club for their partnership, which he noted amplified the event’s impact.
He commended residents for taking the opportunity to prioritize their health, emphasizing the critical role of early detection in managing common health concerns.
Dr. Ogunbiyi highlighted the silent yet widespread nature of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and vision impairments within the community, educating participants on causes, prevention, and management strategies.
“With proper care and timely intervention, we can significantly reduce the impact of these health challenges,” he stated, urging beneficiaries to follow medical advice to prevent these issues from worsening.
Beneficiaries praised the organizers for their commitment to community health.
Mr. Augustine Obi acknowledged the outreach as a lifeline in difficult economic times, saying, “Many people can not afford hospital visits, so this initiative is invaluable.”
Similarly, Mr. Olabamiji Kolawole of Ward E2, Eruwen, commended the PAJ Movement’s consistency in offering impactful health programs.
“This isn’t the first time the PAJ Movement has organized a medical program. It’s always productive and beneficial,” Kolawole noted, underscoring the importance of prioritizing health, stating, “Health is wealth, and residents should make the most of such opportunities.”
The collaboration between PAJ Movement and Ikorodu Diamond Lions Club highlights the power of partnerships in addressing public health challenges.
Their combined efforts provided essential services and fostered a sense of unity among participants.
As residents left equipped with knowledge, medications, and resources, the success of this World Diabetes Day outreach reflected the crucial role grassroots movements play in community health, reinforcing that proactive healthcare is essential to community development.
