
Ikorodu Local Government hosted its 2025 Budget Stakeholders’ Meeting on November 19, 2024, at the Council Secretariat Hall.
Tagged the “Budget of Consolidation 2025,” the forum aimed to engage residents in shaping the local government’s fiscal priorities for the coming year.
The consultative forum exemplifies the council’s dedication to inclusive governance, setting the stage for a robust and impactful 2025.
Hon. Adebowale Adebola, Leader of the Ikorodu Local Government Legislative Council, emphasized the importance of inclusivity in governance.
“This meeting provides an opportunity for stakeholders to identify unmet needs and propose projects for inclusion in the 2025 budget.”
“It underscores our commitment to participatory governance,” he noted.
The event began with a presentation highlighting the projects completed within the tenure of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adesina.
Delivering his address, Hon. Adesina reflected on his administration’s achievements and reaffirmed his commitment to finishing strong.
“As my tenure winds down, I remain deeply committed to leaving a legacy of transparency, accountability, and shared prosperity.
The 2025 budget will reflect our collective vision for a better Ikorodu,” he declared.
Reeling his achievements in 2024, the chairman disclosed that over 14 roads and drainage projects were completed across Ikorodu LGA, alongside the provision of 10 industrial boreholes. The construction of a state-of-the-art legislative chamber is also underway.
New classrooms and ICT centres were constructed, and teaching materials were distributed to schools.
Health centres were renovated, free medical missions were conducted, and primary healthcare facilities received enhanced power supply.
Vocational training and digital skills programs were organized, and mini-buses were distributed to empower youths.
Regular sanitation enforcement, drainage desilting, and active participation in global environmental initiatives ensured cleaner communities.
The meeting served as a platform for stakeholders to share their priorities and discuss areas of focus.
On stakeholders’ request, Alhaji Lamidi Folorunso emphasized the need for enhanced security in public schools.
Additionally, Baale of Ojogbe, Chief Olukayode Olomo, appealed for the establishment of a government public school within his community.
The Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ikorodu Branch, Comr. Basit Ogunsanmi called for the provision of a library, vocational training centre, sports facilities, and a bus to support the activities of the youth council.
Representing the Association of the Deaf and People with Special Needs, Mr. Gbaderu Mustapha advocated for free medical care, empowerment training, a bus for mobility, and the inclusion of deaf interpreters in government programs to enhance accessibility.
Alhaji Adewale Musliu Sulaimon underscored the importance of preserving Ikorodu’s cultural heritage and urged the council to spearhead initiatives aimed at safeguarding and promoting local traditions.
Other stakeholders, including artisans, teachers, and local security operatives, echoed the need for the council to complete ongoing projects and address gaps in service delivery.
After gathering the requests made by stakeholders, the secretary to the local government, Alhaji Lateef Afini, assured attendees that all suggestions would be carefully reviewed for possible inclusion in the 2025 budget.
The forum concluded with commendations for Hon. Wasiu Adesina’s administration and a call for sustained efforts to deliver democratic dividends at the grassroots.
