
Ikorodu Club, a prestigious social hub at the heart of Ikorodu’s community, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a grand event at its secretariat in the Aga area of Ikorodu on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The golden jubilee marked five decades of commitment to promoting personal development, social engagement, and community growth.
Founded 50 years ago by ten visionary leaders of Ikorodu origin, the club has evolved into a vibrant centre of progress and fellowship.
The celebration spotlighted its sustained contributions to the social, recreational, and developmental aspects of the Ikorodu community.
The ceremony drew an array of distinguished guests, including: HRM Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, accompanied by Baales from neighboring communities.
Representatives from the Peacock Club and Progressive Elite Club, symbolizing the collaborative spirit of Ikorodu.
Religious leaders such as Special Apostle Prophet Samson Adeleke and the grand chief imam of Ikorodu Division, Sheikh Seifudeen Ayinla Olowooribi, who delivered blessings for the event.
In his keynote address, Alhaji L.B. Oreagba, President of Ikorodu Club, reflected on the club’s humble beginnings and its mission to enhance recreation, social interaction, and community development.
He acknowledged the foresight of the club’s founders and paid tribute to past leaders whose efforts have shaped the club’s success.
Alhaji Oreagba highlighted the club’s achievements, which include: Development of event and recreational facilities fostering social interaction; Implementation of educational support initiatives for schools in Ikorodu; and Execution of community development projects, such as borehole installations and youth empowerment programs.
Looking ahead, he shared plans to expand membership, upgrade facilities, and embark on developmental projects aimed at sustaining the club’s legacy and broadening its impact.
The celebration featured significant contributions from community organizations: The Progressive Elite Club donated a solar-powered lighting system and a table tennis court, promoting sustainability and enhancing recreational activities.
The Peacock Club, represented by Mr. S.A. Ogedegbe pledged continued support for the club’s initiatives.
Mrs. Fadiora Olubukola Abidemi, Head Teacher of Aga Primary School, expressed deep appreciation for the club’s borehole water project, which has improved hygiene and health at the school.
HRM Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi extended his congratulations to Ikorodu Club on its golden jubilee, commending its consistent efforts to foster unity and uplift the community.
He also made a financial donation to support the club’s activities and development.
The paramount ruler of Ikorodu Kingdom lauded the inclusion of Islamic and Christian blessings, which reflected the club’s dedication to inclusivity.
In his remarks, Oba Shotobi urged the club to focus on collective goals, particularly in advocating for Ikorodu’s political representation at the highest levels.
“Ikorodu is long overdue for the position of Governor in Lagos State. Ikorodu Club must champion this cause for our collective progress,” he declared.
The event was both a celebration of past achievements and a springboard for future aspirations.
