On November 27, 2024, the Ikorodu Division Councillors Forum gathered at the Ikorodu North LCDA Secretariat for a crucial meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on developmental initiatives aimed at fostering progress and unity within the division.
With a focus on collaboration and strategic planning, the councillors explored innovative solutions to address community challenges and advance sustainable development across all areas under their jurisdiction.
The forum brought together councillors from Ikorodu Local Government and the five Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs): Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Ikorodu North, Ikorodu West, Imota, and Ijede.
Speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN) after the meeting, Hon. Adebowale Adebola, the Leader of the House in Ikorodu Local Government and Chairman of the Councillors Forum, emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving progress across the division.
“This forum is dedicated to fostering unity, synergy, and coordination of activities across our division. Our primary goal is to deliberate on critical issues that affect our communities and collectively plan for sustainable development,” Hon. Adebola stated.
Key topics discussed included the formulation of a unified bylaw to provide a standardized framework for all LCDAs.
Hon. Adebola highlighted that the bylaw aims to address pressing societal issues, such as drug abuse and franchise management, while also bolstering revenue generation for the local councils.
“We are committed to introducing laws that will combat drug abuse and improve franchise management.”
“These measures are critical not only for tackling societal challenges but also for enhancing revenue streams to sustain local governance,” he explained.
The councillors also deliberated on strategies for executing ward projects and advancing the autonomy of local governments.
Hon. Adebola underscored the importance of empowerment initiatives, urging local government chairmen to prioritize resource allocation for impactful programs that benefit residents.
“Empowering our communities is a core aspect of our discussions. We aim to ensure that resources are channelled effectively to uplift lives and create opportunities for development,” he added.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to unified efforts across all councils in Ikorodu Division, ensuring equitable development and addressing the needs of every ward and community.
With optimism about the impact of the resolutions, the councillors expressed confidence in their ability to drive meaningful change through coordinated governance, innovative policies, and sustainable initiatives.
