
Ikorodu News Network (INN) recently featured an insightful interview with Mr. Taofeeq Adeosun, an Environmental Consultant at Anila Resources Nigeria Limited and the Chairman of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Lagos Mainland Chapter.
During an interview on November 29, 2024, Mr. Adeosun highlighted the Society’s efforts to foster a clean and sustainable environment while aligning with the government’s environmental agenda.
Speaking about the Society’s mission, Mr. Adeosun explained, “The Nigerian Environmental Society is deeply concerned about the state of the environment. Our goal is to promote a good, clean, and sustainable environment for everyone.”
He highlighted that the Society, formally established in 1985 after its inception in 1983, has been a steadfast advocate for environmental sustainability.
“Since our establishment, we have continuously advocated ways to assist the government in achieving a sustainable environment through strategic initiatives and partnerships,” he noted.
When asked about the Society’s awareness campaigns, Mr. Adeosun emphasized their wide-ranging efforts, stating, “We create awareness through seminars, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.”
“Our chapters also visit marketplaces to advocate for healthier living practices. This is an ongoing effort organized annually across our over 30 chapters nationwide.”
In Lagos State, the Society operates two chapters—Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland.
According to Mr. Adeosun, their activities include state-wide conferences aimed at addressing local environmental challenges and proposing actionable solutions.
He further explained that these conferences often involve partnerships with the Federal Ministry of Environment to execute impactful projects.
Mr. Adeosun also underscored the benefits of joining the Nigerian Environmental Society.
“Membership broadens one’s knowledge by fostering interaction with like-minded professionals and experts in the field,” he said.
Additionally, the society prioritizes cultivating young talent by admitting students from tertiary institutions and creating early awareness about careers in environmental science.
As the chairman of the Lagos Mainland Chapter, Mr. Adeosun is a leading voice in championing sustainable practices and empowering communities through education and proactive engagement.
