
The Lagos State Council Chairmen’s Wives Association (LASCCWA) hosted its Annual Conference and Empowerment Program on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Ikorodu West LCDA Hall.
The event brought together wives of local government and LCDA chairmen from across Lagos State, alongside public school students, women, and children from the Ikorodu Division.
The program featured the distribution of empowerment items, including grinding machines, deep freezers, chairs, tables, and notebooks, to indigent students and market women in the division.
Speaking on behalf of LASCCWA, Mrs. Abolanle Adesina, wife of the Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, emphasized the association’s alignment with the vision of the Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
“We assist the First Lady in strengthening community relationships and stand for the aged, widows, children, and the less privileged,” Mrs. Adesina said.
Other LASCCWA leaders that chaired the program, included: Mrs. Folashade Sulaimon (Chairperson, Ikorodu West LCDA); Mrs. Fola Banjo (Chairperson, Ikorodu North LCDA); Mrs. Maureen Daini (Chairperson, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA); and Mrs. Funmilayo Agoro (Chairperson, Imota LCDA).
Before the empowerment segment, Dr. Agbolagorite Olurotimi, Vice-Chairman of the TB Steering Committee, raised awareness on tuberculosis elimination in rural areas.
Representing the Stop TB Partnership Lagos, he discussed strategies to eradicate tuberculosis and emphasized the need for proactive community health measures.
“The fight against tuberculosis begins with awareness. We must collectively work towards eliminating this disease in Lagos State,” Dr. Olurotimi urged.
His enlightening session set the stage for the day’s focus on health, education, and empowerment.
The empowerment program, spearheaded by LASCCWA, distributed key items to enhance education and promote financial independence:
School materials such as chairs, tables, uniforms, and notebooks were donated to public schools.
Grinding machines, deep freezers, and cash gifts were presented to market women and other beneficiaries.
Hon. Wasiu Adesina, Executive Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, commended LASCCWA’s initiative, describing it as transformative and timely.
“This program focuses on the growth and development of schools and communities.”
“I commend my wife and the other council first ladies for their efforts, which transcend titles and create legacies future generations will cherish,” Hon. Adesina stated.
He encouraged beneficiaries to use the items judiciously, adding: “Students should concentrate on their studies because readers are leaders. This initiative will greatly benefit the Ikorodu Division.”
Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Executive Chairman Ikorodu West LCDA praised the first ladies’ dedication to community support.
“The contributions of LASCCWA reflect their unwavering commitment to uplifting the vulnerable in our communities.”
“Their efforts will foster a healthier and more supportive environment,” he noted.
He urged recipients to utilize the items as a stepping stone to better livelihoods.
Executive Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba expressed her passion for education and development.
“By equipping students and empowering women, we are building a brighter future for our communities.”
“Education and empowerment are fundamental to societal progress,” she said.
Executive Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Bldr. Adeola Adebisi Banjo applauded LASCCWA for their inclusivity and vision.
“Behind every successful man is a strong woman. The dedication shown by our council chairmen’s wives today exemplifies this truth. Their initiatives will strengthen families and communities,” he remarked.
Mrs. Fola Banjo, Chairperson of Ikorodu North LCDA, emphasized LASCCWA’s mission to empower women and children.
“Our collective efforts are aligned with the visionary leadership of the Lagos State First Lady. By empowering women, we empower communities,” she said.
Mrs. Charles Olayinka, who received a cash gift, expressed gratitude, saying the support would assist her family.
Agbaje Yetunde Bosunra, who was presented with a deep freezer, likened the gesture to business startup support.
Mrs. Adeyemi Oluwaseyi, a teacher at C&S Primary School, praised the provision of school materials, noting that they would enhance the students’ learning experience.
The event demonstrated a renewed commitment to empowering vulnerable groups.
“Let us continue to build legacies that future generations will cherish,” Hon. Wasiu Adesina said in his interview with Ikorodu News Network (INN).
The Education Secretary of Ikorodu Local Government, Alhaji Afolabi Amusa, along with officials from the Education Department in Ikorodu Local Government, were also in attendance at the program.
