The Ikorodu Local Government, in collaboration with Teefrank International Limited, launched a three-day entrepreneurship skills training program for 40 selected women in Ikorodu Central.
The event, held at the O’Clean Events Place within the Ikorodu Council Secretariat from December 4 to 6, 2024, aims to empower participants with essential entrepreneurial skills, fostering self-reliance and driving community development.
Flagging off the program, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina emphasized the significance of empowering women as a means of uplifting entire communities.
He remarked, “If you train a woman, you’ve trained the community.”
Hon. Adesina urged the participants to take the training seriously, stressing the importance of their roles in giving back to society and inspiring others through their achievements.
He further revealed plans to empower an additional 25 women in the near future, noting that such initiatives would enhance growth and development in the region.
Addressing the trainers, who are professors from Lagos State University (LASU), he encouraged them to deliver impactful sessions to ensure the program achieves its goals.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Animashun Longe highlighted the focus of the training, which is to help participants increase their profits by reducing costs and optimizing sales.
He added, “If women are empowered in this form, it becomes easier to reduce the burden of responsibilities at home, as they can better support their families.”
Professor Olabisi Yusuf, one of the trainers, commended the local government chairman for organizing the program.
She noted that such initiatives would strengthen the business acumen of women and upgrade their entrepreneurial capacities.
A beneficiary, Chief Mrs. Bello Omobalanle Amope expressed her gratitude, stating that the program would help women grow intellectually while enabling them to adapt to the evolving, technology-driven business environment.
In a subsequent statement to Ikorodu News Network (INN), Hon. Adesina announced, “After the training, the council will empower the women in their respective fields.”
The training was formally declared open by Hon. Wasiu Adesina, marking the beginning of a transformative experience for the participants.
This initiative underscores Ikorodu Local Government’s commitment to empowering women and fostering economic growth in the community.
