One of the most impactful initiatives under this administration is the Lagos State Rural Electrification Initiative.
Launched in the second quarter of 2024, this program has already delivered hundreds of high-capacity transformers to underserved communities, positively affecting the lives of thousands.
Beyond providing new transformers to areas lacking power, the initiative also targets communities with overloaded transformers, supplying additional units to prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of existing infrastructure.
Beneficiaries of this initiative include areas such as Badagry, Ibeju-Lekki, Iyana Ipaja, Surulere, Ojo, Epe, and Ikorodu.
“This electrification initiative is more than just the delivery of transformers—it’s about empowering communities to thrive and fostering development in previously underserved areas,” Dr. Agbaje explained.
While the electrification program is a cornerstone of the administration’s rural development strategy, it is complemented by other key initiatives.
The Office of Rural Development, under the Governor’s guidance, has also undertaken extensive road construction projects to improve accessibility in rural areas.
In addition, the installation of solar-powered streetlights has enhanced security and enabled businesses to operate into the night without fear of insecurity.
“These solar streetlights have transformed night-time activities in these communities,” Dr. Agbaje remarked.
“Traders now feel safe staying open longer, boosting economic activities and fostering growth.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration stands out for its responsiveness to community needs.
The Office of Rural Development maintains an open-door policy, consistently receiving and addressing requests from residents and community groups.
